Title: Heavy Metal Map Mayhem
Post by: DarkISI on 27 January 2011, 15:55:08
I'm unsure if it belongs here or in the Fan Art forum or somewhere else.... but in the end, they are terrain ;)

I created a lot of maps with it over the years and I will post a few of them whenever I feel like it. Usually they are sets with multiple maps.
Be aware, that I made up my own pallet - you need it to use the files (or they will look somewhat strange ;))

Thanks :)

Yeah, it would be great to use them in MM. At some point I thought about creating them in MM, but then I noticed that I created over a hundred maps.... then I got veeeeery lazy ;)

I printed a few of them to use them at home or while away on conventions. That's always nice, too.

Thank you :)

Personally I simply use my printer to print the maps on A4 sheets and then I glue them together. It's a lot of work, but still cheaper than going to a copy shop ;)

Excellent  [rockon], I must admit I have to redo alot of my own HMMaps as I suffered a loss of a external HD that had over 3 years of collected Battletech stuff, let alone all my custom HMMaps, a couple of years ago  :'(.

Ouch. That's not so good. I had some HDD losses myself, but luckily I had backups for almost everything. Currently I hope I got every map transfered from my old computer to the new one, but I still have the old one lying around, so I can boot it up and look what I forgot to copy.

You would have to create them from the ground up. MM can't read the HMMap files since they handle their data extremely different.
But should you do it anyway please post them here :))

I noticed, the scenario maps had numbers as their name instead of their names. That was caused by the fact that I originally created them for a campaign and they were numbered to fit the different scenarios. I changed that now, so that the current archives contain correctly named files.
That was especially confusing with Grasland and Grasland 2 since Grasland had a numeric name and Grasland 2 was named Grasland...  [metalhealth] fixed that

Map Set 30 (Volcano)

After creating this map set I noticed that it would be impossible, to do it MM without looking totally stupid. So I emailed Rick Raisley about it and asked him, if we could use the background image for MM - and he said yes. As a result, the next MM release will have a volcano theme included and this map set. Nevertheless I decided not to include the MM files for the maps here, because they wouldn't work on the current releases and will be included in the next release anyway.

You would have to open the files in HMMap and create a jpg file from there. Then you can send them to any copy shop to get them printed.

Post by: atlask on 21 June 2011, 09:01:48
found this site a while back.. http://www.gamer-printshop.com cost for laminating 18 x 24 inches costs $4.50 per sheet but some of the links are down.. so can't find a cost for heavy metal maps.. but here is how maps need to be sent Use Standard CBT size, encoded as a JPG in default 171 dpi resolution. Print up to
four map design into a single large format color printed map. Just furnish us with
the JPG produced by the program.

they do price quotes as well..

Very nice work  8)

I have the HeavyMetal series, including HM Maps, but I rarely use it. One tip, if I can: it was mentioned that you can simply print the maps out on A4 sheets and tape them together instead of paying through the nose at some copy shop. You can use clear contact paper to make the maps more durable (this also works for the standard maps). Hope this helps  :)

They are available, but it seems like your browser doesn't handle Umlauts very well. I changed the URLs, should all be working now. If there are any more problems, let me know which map has issues so I can take a closer look. :)
