Miniature of the Fortnight #7: Dragon
« on: 18 December 2016, 22:33:14 »
One of the classic 'Mechs of House Kurita, the Dragon has been around since TRO 3025. I won't say much about the 'Mech itself since this isn't a 'Mech of the Week article.  The Dragon has two Inner Sphere spinoffs, the Grand Dragon and the Dragon II.

There appear to be four separate sculpts of the Dragon (and Grand Dragon):
  • The plastic miniature available in the intro box and the Striker Lance Pack.
  • The original metal sculpt from Ral Partha, originally released as 20-868.
  • A second metal sculpt available from Ral Partha and then IWM, also released as 20-868.
  • A custom sculpt for Grand Dragon (Emory) in the Sorenson's Sabres lance pack for Sword And Dragon.
The Dragon II has a single sculpt available (20-5096).

This is the fortnight of the Dragon.  If you have any painted (or will be painting), please post them!

This is the last miniature of the fortnight for 2016.  We'll be starting 2017 with the Warhawk (Masakari).

Finished this recently. It's an intro box plastic, reposed and customized with 17th-century Polish cavalry wings.

That's taking the 'winged hussar' look to a new extreme. Nicely done.

When I first saw it, I though Bear from Gray Death Legion (even though his ride is a Crusader)

And after Weirdos jawdropping work we return to something more ordinary...

Looking at the Dragon i realised i have three of them, but only one painted so far. The intro box plastic mini will have to wait quite a long time (i am not that much into plastic). The older metal mini with scales is already slated for some paintwork (although i don't know when this will happen...) leaving me with only a resculpted scaleless metal mini done as part of my 4. Arkab legionaires.

I have a plastic mini in the works, complete with transparent base. But, for right now, I have a custom kit bashed map-scale Dragon. I intend to make at least one more of the latter.

Now, I have an old metal one (scaled), but I can't seem to find a solo shot of it yet, so I post the group of painted minis where you can see it, until I can either take a new pic or find a different copy elsewhere. (I've decided that it will be repainted for my generic team brown, to be replaced by the box plastic in my generic team red.)

And, finally, I painted up a 25th anniversary poor plastic dragon for a friend in metallic browns and greens for a friend.

This is the last one I took that I could find on these forums. So, I'll have to take a pic of my classic dragon in DCMS Sword of Light livery.

This is Lurch, an intro box Dragon painted in generic brown camouflage.  This was among the first ten miniatures I ever painted and I believe it shows.  I'd like to think I've gotten a little better since then.

Part 1

Resculpt in green and white, original in dark blue and gray.  1C is red and gray with a white head and the Grand Dragon in red with white and gray trim.

Part 2

Grand Dragon Douglas, Dragon Emory in sky blue and orange trim, Great Wrym and a custom Dragon made to carry an AC/10 and SRM-4 before MWO was a thing with custom pilot units.

I thought I had made a Great Wyrm Aemelia in the past but its probably MiA, because I know I had made custom minis for the entirety of RS: Unique Mechs.

This one is still a WIP, but I'm pleased with the repositioning.  The sculpt is the current sculpt.

Here are my three Dragons. All are original lead and with the scales. These were painted back in the late 80s.

Nothing fancy, but I always liked my old Burton's Brigade Dragon (original casting).
