Most current Mercenary Rulebooks?
« on: 25 July 2011, 22:48:36 »
Anybody want to point me in the right direction, as I need to start running some merc campaigns again?

Thanks in advance.

The books in publishing order:

Mercenary's Handbook
Mercenary's Handbook 3055
Field Manual Mercenaries
Field Manual Mercenaries, Revised
Mercenaries Supplemental (alternate mercenary creation rules)
Mercenaries Supplemental II (expansions to previous rules from FMMr)
Mercenaries Supplemental Update (expansions to previous rules from FMMr)

HTH

Thanks! Are all of them current with TW, though? or none of the above?

They work with TW . . . however some of the tech requirements mentioned for repairs are off BMR.  Course you can use whatever rules you want for your game in that regard, as its the strategic portion of the game.

Don't forget that Field Manual: Updates has a section on mercs.

The three Supplementals provide a deployment table that is more recent than FM:U though. Then again, if you're looking for pre-Jihad deployment, FM:U is definitely the one to look at.

I'm less concerned with deployment tables than general unit info and other building techniques.

Then FM: Mercs Revised is what I'd recommend. It's the most up to date (though it definitely has significant changes, since StratOps has been released long after it was written). There's a PDF on BattleCorps, if you want to go that route.

Not exactly related, but if you like the simpler Warchest system, I'll plug my modified version of it. Link found in my sig.

For the record, any of the older systems will still create a usable unit, though some of them depend on obsolete RPG rules.
