Interest in Online Exclusive Combined Arms deal
« on: 04 March 2012, 00:29:34 »
I am checking to see what kind of interest there would be for a combined arms deal that would be only available as an online exclusive like the Era Mech packs are now. The pack would most likely include several mechs, vehicles, Battle armor, and maybe some other forces. I would most likely do a Inner Sphere and a Clan one for a trial, to test how they would do. The total price would include a 20% discount just like the Online Mech packs offer now.

So the question is, before I go forward with anymore planing, what kind of interest would people have in such a option to purchase. If the interest is strong enough, I will propose it to Mike.

I wouldn't mind, in fact that's a neat idea.
It would even be better if there were Era packs especially with eras like Dark Age.
It's not about winning or losing, no it's all about how many chapters have you added to the rule books after your crazy antics.

What is the threshold for "enough interest"?

Also, as my Inner Sphere faction is Liao, which has had a rather historical...necessity for combined arms,
I would definitely love to see something like this.

I'm interested, but there is always the problem that I can't really order online exclusives whenever I would like to. It's too expensive to pay for shipping to Germany or to get enough money together so shipping can be waved.

Is there a way so resellers could order from IWM directly, to be able to get their hands on online exclusives? So that I (and probably a lot of other non-US-BT-Fans) could order them through "normal" channels?

What most likely will happen if the Yes's win the poll since that I would do a generic Inner Sphere and Clan online packs first and see how they will sell. There might be two to four up at a time on the website and would change like the Era mech packs do now.

Only retail stores have the ability to order online exclusives (Distributors can not), they just do not get there discount on them since they are not in distribution and are online only. We are in the process of getting Retailers set up to order off the website. So if you know a store in your area they could try and get them from IWM direct. I just looked for international shipping its free shipping with over 250. Another option is just save up to do one big purchase at some point in the year to get the free shipping.

Ok..this is cool! My FLGS might finally be able to order minis for me when this gets up!

a resounding yes, especially for the clans, and a capellan pack, based on the fact that most of their stuff seems to be archived
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

Sounds good for beginners. As i have most miniatures already in numbers i need, this is no offer for me. But i see some use for specific packs like some ComGuard/WoB mixed Level II or Clan Hells Horses mixed star. But most units don't mix up their machines on the lowest level. So you will have to add some minis to the pack to get a 'correct' unit. ;)

Sounds like a really good deal for the DA era, since vees and BA are much more prevalent.

I love this idea! My only suggestions would be to use widely available units so that players of Faction X won't be left out because their nation doesn't get half the box. Another idea would be to exclude mechs from the Intro Box, so that new players with just that don't have to buy duplicates if they don't want to.

I kind of agree with this for generic boxes..Factional ones, it makes sense to include a 'mech or two that is faction specific, and
does a good job supporting the tanks and infantry in the pack. For example, for a Liao Pack, I could see a Sha-yu, a Po, 2 Regulators,
and 4 squads of Fa Shih.

I'd duplicate as little as possible, even in the factional ones. Drop one of the Regulators for a 3058 Vedette, Brutus, or Zhukov. This exposes the players to as many new minis/designs as possible, improving the odds that they'll really like one(or more), and buy more of that mini(s).

It looks like the "Yes's" are way in the lead, I will work on two test products, one clan and one IS. Depending how well they do will determine how many more I do.

Does IWM still send those intro lance packs like products 10-038 through 10-044 to retailers? That's where I'm imagining a combined arms pack or a pack of misc. tanks would sell well.

Yes the beginner sets are in distribution still. But any combine arms packs done will be done through the webstore and will be online only.

Ditto x2

As much as I like my 4 Ontos, or 4 Guillotines, or 4 Stingers, or even my 16 Savanah Masters, for when I want a "Pure" lance.

I much prefer the idea of new players getting singles of everything to diversify selection & options to play.

You can also get "factional" feel w/o being all "super specialized".
For instance, using say House Liao for example.

A Raven, Cataphract, Victor, or Pillager all offer a feel of Liao while 3 of them are on the Faction lists of other Houses.  And none of them duplicates the Vindicator or Catapult of the main boxed set.  (Not that Multiple Vindi's is ever a bad idea for Liao IMHO)

Meanwhile a tank unit of Po/Regulator with Vedette, Maxim, & Condor/Minion is a solid Liao mix but also offers generic &/or widely delpoyed miniatures too.

An infantry selection of Foot Plasma Rifle Squad,  Jump Infantry Squad,  Standard IS BA,  & Fa Shih also gives it a Liao feel while leaving plenty of room for other faction lovers to pick it up as well.

Could it be done like the older "Build Your own Star" deal?  Say you set the pack at 4 'Mechs, 8 tanks, 3 packs of BA, and 4 AeroFighters/conventional vehicles, and get a 20% discount?  That way you don't get stuck having to buy a pack that only has some of the things you want.

Obviously, the numbers of units are up to you, just making an example.

There is not a easy way to do it like the old way and have it automatically do the percent off on the qualifying products. Which is why I have been doing the online mech packs the way I have them set up now.

You know, I was thinking of something...

Speck, you said doing an Inner Sphere and Clan pack for the test runs.
Given the theme of the year for CGL, doing the first Inner Sphere combined
arms pack of Star League available units might be a cool idea!
It would tie it in to the releases coming out from CGL, and, ultimately, Star League
stuff is usable by everyone in a modern setting, even Clan players(for their second-line
forces)
