Title: Canon status of the BattleTech CCG?

I'm primarily asking this question with an eye on the caption texts on the cards.

For example, outside of the animated TV show which is not canon Valten Ryder of 1st Somerset Strikers fame is exclusively mentioned on a CCG card ("Studied Move"). He is not specifically mentioned in the canonical parts of 1st Somerset Strikers sourcebook.

So does the CCG card make him a canonical character?
