I think we’ve explored sub optimal flavor designs aplenty.  For the lighter mechs, I’m hoping to see viability.  In 3150’s, that’s a tall order (see Wulfen or Gunsmith).
Do you mean viability on the game board or viability under in-universe conditions? Because those are two different things.

For anyone with RecGuide Vol 4, the new all-IS Wasp is the kind of thing that's both.  Remember that "viability on the game board" is not the same thing as beating its weight-class peers in a 1v1.  A 500 and change BV fast scout that isn't a 1200 BV striker blinged to the nines in Clantech is a bunch more points you can spend on something else.

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

As promised, I've done a little bit of work on this.  Currently, I haven't distinguished between Phoenix and non-Phoenix versions (my base spreadsheet doesn't specify) and I've only looked at the top 50ish non-Omnimechs, based on number of versions.
Matching variants have the same number of weapon systems in more-or-less the same place, with a bit of leeway over type.
Close variants ony differ in minor ways, for example the existence of rear-mounted or 1/2t weapons, or minor variance in total missile tubes.

It's in this Google doc.

If people like it, I shall spend time expanding it and taking comments.

i've redone the first post (and the thread title) to include an index of mechs appearing the recguides, in addition to the WYSIWYG list

I'll note that the Fenris K matches the art if you allow replacing missile ports with other weapons (and don't care on where or how AMS systems appear).

I'm surprised that you've got the BLR-6C listed as WYSIWYG since it "does away with the signature arm weapon".

Fenris K doesn't work, it's got a hand actuator on the arm with the two ER Mediums.

yeah, there are little things like that. the behemoth 7 has the extra ERLL in addition to the SPL.

so far the T configs have been the only mini-matching variants of the classic clan omnis

Ah, didn't notice that. Though it is actually the LPL/ERSL arm that is the issue. Sigh.

Fortunately the Fenris T is pretty nice. Supercharger, and all weapons sync well at close range, unlike the Fenris Prime which is more of a sniper with some extras.

The Fenris K actually seems to be a Fenris A made to actually be good. LPL replaces the LB2-X, a LAMS replaces the AMS, and adds an ER Small Laser.

added a section to highlight the new mech in each guide.

we're effectively getting the mech section of a full TRO here along with stuff like the goliath c. the T configs and the updated classic designs would follow in a NTNU record sheet product. i'd call it the Real TRO 3150™ but it lacks vees, ba, and aero. the only canon units debuting after 3144 are in XTRO Republic 3 and the recguides so TRO 3150 is a bit of a misnomer.

TRO3150 adds info to 'Mechs between 3145 and 3150, hence the name me thinks.

I’ll acknowledge they exist when the record sheets appear and they show up on the MUL

The only way I'll ever play WYSIWYG is if battle damage is actually simulated on the minis.  Everyone at the game table will have a Dremel and a torch on hand  >:D
