Using Beagle to target in C3 network
« on: 20 April 2018, 01:00:21 »
Question - I was wondering if using the Sprint Scout Helicopter (C3) which has only a C3Slave and Beagle Active Probe -- if this is the "spotter" unit, do all other units target at long range since BAP only has a value under long, or would it still be considered short if the Sprint is within 4 hexes?

Just found the JR7-C2 mech - has 3 x MML5's.... how do you determine what is "short" range with this one also?

Wait... the closest unit with C3 doesn't actually use it's OWN short range to target, it simply uses its range. So if it is 3 hexes away from target, then all linked units target as if they were only 3 hexes away. As long as LOS and max range is not an issue... i need to go to bed.

Yep. So if a unit in that network (3 hexes to target X) has something in Beagle range of target X, you resolve it as if that Beagle is at range 3, not the range of the carrying unit.

If the carrying unit is beyond Beagle range, the probe doesn't do anything.

The solution is just ignore Paul.

a couple other things to remember

let's say you've got an LRM like an archer in your network at 16 hexes. your closest C3 friend is at 3. The archer is considered three hexes away BUT

1) you don't have to consider minimum range like you would if you were actually at a range of 3

2) the terrain modifiers are determined by what is between the archer and the target.

3) you can't fire beyond the maximum range of the weapon so if you're past 21 hexes it doesn't matter how close you have a c3 spotter.
