Title: Miniature of the Fortnight #72: Wolverine (and Wolverine II)
Post by: Xiwo Xerase on 02 July 2019, 21:17:25
The Wolverine is an old, old friend, one of the first BattleMechs, dating all the way back to the second edition boxed set of BattleTech.  That edition of BattleTech was my introduction to the game, so there's a bit of nostalgia here.  It's been a long road for the Wolverine, from one of the earliest 'Mechs and part of the 55-ton trio to being Unseen and completely absent, then Reseen, with Technical Readout: Project Phoenix and, now, Classic.  If you'd like to see how to use it in game, please see its 'Mech of the Week (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,53536.0.html) article.

For the purpose of this article, the Wolverine II is just another variant of the Wolverine.

Despite its long pedigree, it does not have many sculpts, especially compared to some of its Reseen kin.  The sculpts are:An open question: Given we don't have a Classic metal sculpt, are the WVR-3R and WVR-7H sculpts reasonable proxies for the 3025 and 3050 variants of the Wolverine?  (Also, is this a matter for a different topic?)

Thank you for reading.  And, especially, thank you to those who post and to those who helped bring the Wolverine and the other Classics back to us.

Our next three fortnights will be:

I actually have one painted.  This is a Reseen Wolverine WVR-8K (20-208) (standing in for a WVR-7D) in the colors of the Donegal Guards.

I only have three Wolverines, and they all go back to a campaign I ran in the early 90s...

Sakhara Military Academy (non-canon):

This Mech was painted over 25 years ago and has seen better days. You can also see heavy yellowing, which is why you should never seal with polyurethane.

Albion Military Academy:

This one was painted maybe 10 years ago, right after I started painting again. Love the blues, but the whites are a little too dirty.

2nd An Ting Regiment

Again, painted over 25 years ago, but the unit numbers were updated to Kanji about 10 years ago.

Looks like i have a lot of Wolverines. And more to come.
The oldest one is in the old Oriente Fusiliers, next one in Marik Militia, then one for the good old GDL and the last is a Reseen version for DCMS Nightstalkers.

To start, here's my primitive Wolverine.  Nothing fancy, just regular camouflage.  Got some more, but need to take pictures.

EDIT:  Here is my WVR-8K from my Sword of Light Company.

Here are my two new Wolverines in progress.  Both Kurita.  Another member to the Sword of Light and my crack at the Alshain Regulars.  The Regulars don't have much to go on.  I'm working from the picture at the back of Combat Manual: Kurita.  I've found no other reference in my small library and Camospecs only has the Alshain Avengers.  Wish me luck. ;)

I'm surprised I didn't get to this.

But, now that I've freshly finished the Starter box version, here it goes.
