(Oops!  Thanks Weirdo!)

Nice models!  The idea to dip and power-spin is pretty inspired.

Love your work! The only thing I'd say is that brush on wood varnish (which is exactly the same thing as the Army Painter magic dips) works just as well brush on, with a good sized brush, and another to dab off pooling.

The use of power tools is an interesting extension

I had a chance to undercoat and airbrush the yellow on the other 9 Mechs today...going to try and get the black grey accents painted on soon...

Great work, and thanks for the tips, I never thought of using a drill to get rid of the excess, that is fantastic.
You simple paint job but they look great, simple yet effective.
Keep up the good work

Painting the black grey took longer than what I wanted as I had to be really careful not to get it on the yellow parts I didn't want it on, because fixing up mistakes over yellow can be a real pain...where as with the red Mechs I did, I just splashed the black grey all over the legs, not really having to be careful.

Anyway, it was still pretty quick, and then I dipped them and spun them up on the drill today. I'll do the cockpits windows after the Testors Dullcote goes on.

I think once the basing is done, the Testors Dullcote removes the shine and the cockpit windows are done, they will look pretty cool on the tabletop during gameplay, which is the aim...

Over the last couple of days I found the time to work on the bases...and this arvo after work I laid down a single light coat of Testors Dullcote and did the cockpit windows, I also did a few more spots of black grey on a couple of the Mechs as I thought they needed a little more. I have the day off work tomorrow, so I will definitely get them finished...just need to do one more coat of Testors Dullcote and then glue some grass and bushes on to the bases.

I love these plastic miniatures so much and I'm really pumped for the upcoming Clan Kickstarter, and all the Clan and Inner Sphere Mechs (and Elementals/Power Armour) we will see in that. The only very minor quibble I have with these AGoAC mini's, is that I wish the Thunderbolt and the Awesome had slightly more visible cockpit glass, they're a little difficult to see on the models.

That's a really nice effect you have on the bases.  And all the cockpits look great too, even the Thunderbolt...

Thanks Daryk and Valkerie!

These guys are all done now, pretty happy with how they've turned out. I love these plastic Mechs, such excellent sculpts and being plastic makes them so much more gamer friendly...and they are quick and easy to paint to a standard that looks nice on the tabletop using dipping to get them from the painting queue to the tabletop.

These two sets will be Merc units. I also have another two sets of these same minis, which will sit in the cupboard until I receive the Inner Sphere Mechs from the upcoming Kickstarter, and at that time I will paint them all up as Draconis Combine forces, probably using a red. The Clan Mechs from the Kickstarter will be Ghost Bears and maybe some Wolves.

  • I'm just a few onions short of a patch.
The group shot was a wonderful payoff! Also, it looks like you built up the basing material around the feet of the yellow team just that little bit more and I love the effect it gives. Looking forward to seeing what you do post-Kickstarter.

TGB, how did you remove the minis from their original bases? I thought of removing mine from their bases so I can work some decent backgrounds on them, but I am afraid of snapping their feet off.

If you're talking about the new plastics specifically, they're quite soft, and will bend a long way before they break. The base is harder, so it will break first. There is a plastic locator pin that runs up into the foot from the base, so if you want to make life easy, run a #11 blade across under the foot to break  the glue and cut the pin cleanly.

Sorry mate, I didn't see your question until just now.

As Phobos101 said, I just used a strong blade like the ones you get from hardware stores (shown below). Just slide the blade between the foot and the base and apply pressure, some you have to push fairly hard but at no stage did any of the feet come even close to breaking...pretty easy to do.

The solidity of the Stanley knife is important.

And don't push too hard at once, or the blade will fly on once you cut through, and once they've tasted blood ...

I find a rocking motion, with medium force, works well. Works on IWM's pewter minis too, albeit they take much longer.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I used a regular box cutter and was able to remove all mechs from the hex bases, except the Catapult and Battlemaster. Their feet don't have gaps that I could use to leverage the blade inside, so I gave up on them, as I don't want to damage the minis themselves.

Others went off from their bases rather easily.

Sorry for hijacking your thread TGB, your mechs are awesome.
