So I'm actually starting to get some miniatures turned over, and some of the lovely new plastics arrive at my door. So I hustled them to the top of the queue, and immediately spent a month wondering what to paint them as.
As I have a battalion of each major house apart from the purple fellows, I figured I'd go with that. I dug through my random unused 'mechs pile, and found some faction-friendly miniatures that wouldn't be too jarringly... retro. Anyway, here's the results:
Battle Lance - Wolverine, Thunderbolt, Battlemaster, Wolverine
Fire Lance - Griffin, Awesome, Catapult, Shadow Hawk
Sweep Lance - Locust, Flea(IWM), Wraith(IWM), Commando
The logic behind the colour scheme is simple: Basically Free Worlds Guards, with the ratios of white to purple switched, mainly so they can be passed off as FWLM or other purple units. I also wasn't too confident in my ability to paint white, so reducing the white surface area seemed like a good idea.
For anyone interested, the paints are mostly Vallejo, the purple is 2 parts Hexed Lichen to one part Beige. The white is pale blue grey in the recesses, and white at the peaks. Army Painter Quickshade washes were also used. Base texture is a mix of Vallejo brown earth and Golden coarse pumice gel. the colour is a gross mess of brown, orange and white.
Edit: I just realised I missed the canopy on the two metal ones, updated pic to follow.
