Favorite 'buddy cop' films/tv shows?
« on: 09 July 2018, 01:39:20 »
After doing a re-watch of Badboys 1 and 2 the other night, i got to thinking about other good "buddy-cop" movies and shows, and was wondering..  If you could do a 'top 10', what would your rankings be??

It's not who you kill, but how they die!
You can't shoot what you can't see.
You can not dodge it if you don't know it's coming.

Show wise? "New York Undercover" was a favorite show back in the 90s.

Another show that I only caught 1 season of was "Southland" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southland_(TV_series) I wouldn't say that it is like badboys 1 or 2, but it was a good show that I lost track of due to school. I hate seeing how long ago it was... :(

The Good Guys: Sadly, only one season of this funny show about a young uptight cop and his older partner who is stuck in the 70s. Bradley Whitford is a gem in this one and Colin Hanks proves his dad is not the only talented one in the family.

Terriers: Sadly, only one season of this excellent show about two down-on-their-luck private investigators who get mixed up in something bigger than they expected. If you can find it streaming somewhere, I cannot recommend it enough. (I know I'm probably stretching the definition of "buddy cop" with this one, but one of the guys is an alcoholic ex-cop, so I figure it counts.)

I was never much into these but the two I think I enjoyed most were Due South and Alien Nation...

I always loved The Shield.  Michael Chiklis was great in that, always able to rationalize doing terrible things.

I could say that for a variation on the buddy cop thing, I grew up watching and loving Knight Rider when it first came out...

I also had to sit through Chips with some of my family as well (didn't care much for it though)...

As to Almost Human, I did enjoy that one too...

I loved both these shows as well. Too bad that both were short-lived. I also like the Lethal Weapon movies and TV show. Liked the TV show more as delved deeper into what made Riggs Riggs. Too bad they had to kill off the Riggs character, though. The show won't be the same without him.

Because it lacks the "Buddy" concept for the most part.

In last 2 movies Bruce Willis totally has a buddy in each. In first 2, buddies are more distant (like at end of a radio) but there.

You guys are really showing your age. Alien Nation?? Wow that's old..

That we are..   :D :D

Does Murder She Wrote count?

Not really.  A) because she really wasn't "Buddied" with anyone, and B) she was more of a investigator, not cop..

Die Hard (why this hasn't been mentioned by now?)
Because it lacks the "Buddy" concept for the most part.
In last 2 movies Bruce Willis totally has a buddy in each. In first 2, buddies are more distant (like at end of a radio) but there.

That is true.  In #1, he had help from "Al Powel (played by Reginald Veljohnson).
In #2, he had that black techie in the airport.  3 he had Sam L.  4 he had that geeky kid.  And his own son for #5.
So i guess that means Die hard would qualify..

For my picks/
top 5 film
Lethal weapon series
Rush hour trilogy
Bad boys 1 and 2
Tango and cash
Turner and hooch

Tv shows
CHIPS
Miami vice
Knight rider
Simon and simon
Rockford files

A nod goes out to Moonlighting, but they were not really cops, just PIs..

My Favorite Buddy Cop movie:

First Lethal Weapon

Shows:

I remember watching Miami Vice, 21 Jump Street and Hunter religiously in the 80s.  Then in the 90s I think all I watched was Nash Bridges on occasion.

Going back and rewatching I can watch Miami Vice and be entertained.  Watching 21 Jump Street is ok the first couple of seasons, but even back then you could tell Johnny Depp wanted out of his contract and the whole show got really preachy (kids drugs are bad), and Hunter is just tooth pulling painful to watch Fred Dryer try to act.

Well to be fair, Simon and Simon were PIs as well.  and Jim Rockford was a PI as well.  Not to say that I didn't like those shows a lot.

Due South

Oh I remember watching Due South a few times. Not bad... There was also one similar that was out of the 70s 1985 I guess where an American Cop went over to Briton. Dempsy and Makepeace.  Lasted 1 season.
