I wonder if the Hell's Horses are still producing their Thunder Stallion.  They had bunch of those prior to the Jihad.  RATs don't show any as a possible common Mech.

The plant that made the Thunder Stallion was on Kirin.  It is doubtful that the Stone Lions would have produced it since it was a status of the old and abjured clan.

Ursa is the Latin word for bear.
And yeah, I agree: the choice of names fits the units' performance very well. :)

Well, if you look at its performance, it would have been better if they'd called the Ursa the Warthog or Rhino.

Yes, I understand that. But its record sheet says "Dark Age" and that means 3130+.

Are you sure about that?  I was under the impression that Era: Dark Age meant 3085+.

This is what confused me:
BattleTech Eras

If I understand it correctly, The Dark Age Era is divided into two sub-eras (Republic, and conveniently-named Dark Age again) and the Republic sub-era is then divided into two sub-eras (Early Republic, Late Republic).

Not that I remember. The Clans have never been all that big on Quads, the ones now outside of the Homeworlds even less. I wouldn't even count the Stalking Spider II or AraƱa. One is a Sea Fox 'Mech they primarily developed to sell it, not to use it. The other is a weaponized Industrial 'Mech.
That leaves the Balius and the Jaguar (while a case can be made for the Exiles to have become a Lyran sub faction, I would still consider them a Clan by themselves - of course, the Council of 6 would disagree).

Honestly? No.

And I am not sure if you can find it in the Inner Sphere in 3145.

It's a Goliath Scorprion 'Mech. So... no. ;)
Personally I would assume it is extinct in the IS by 3145 (no, the MUL doesn't back that up, no data available yet, just an assumption on my part.)

I have never been too much into the whole "Totem 'Mechs" thing. I can accept that designers slightly altered the appearance of a 'Mech to resemble its namesake - those little "ears" on Panther's and Wolfhound's heads, for example. Okay, that's a cosmetical harmless detail.

But when the form goes into the way of the function (such as in case of Fire Scorpion), I think this is wrong.

Despite it being only manufactured in Clan Space, it's not listed on the Mechs that went exinct in Clan space.  It was still in use 3085.  Unless it source world was glassed, it still has the potential being around. Specially when Home Clans are in need rebuild and BattleMechs.

The mini is terrible- takes up at least 2 hexes.

The Fire Scorpion is my second favourite quad mini, only the unseen Scorpion surpasses it in my affections.

Oh, I'm sure it's still around in the Homeworlds. But in the IS? I don't think so.

like a lot of dark age figures, i suspect wizkids had planned for it to be a Stalking Spider like Btech already had, but the stats and appearance wound up just way too different.

I suspect, too. But its appearance was sufficiently different to justify a Spider II entry which in turn was a canvas to justify just how the heck an obscure Cloud Cobra-exclusive quad saw Inner Sphere proliferation in the DA era.
