Chicagoland April Battletech Game
« on: 01 April 2019, 18:38:12 »
Good evening all,

With Adepticon now behind we can look forward to April. So here's when and where for April:

Games Plus
20 April
As soon after 10AM as possible.

We're going to try something new in April. Catalyst has released some neoprene Battlemats. We're going to be playing our game on those in April. But what are we going to play? Well, it's a classic that everyone has probably played at some point: Capture the Flag. Details will be forthcoming in the coming days but for right now just know that you'll be on two teams and you will be able to bring your own mechs.

So plug it in to your calendars and stay tuned for more details about the forces and any special rules. 8)

First things first: what to bring.

Each player has a choice of what to use. Your options are:
  • Runners: Two mechs with a combined BV of 2,500, of which no one mech can be more than 60% (1,500). Hands are also a requirement. Cicadas cannot pick up anything, much less the flag.
  • Tagger: One mech no more than 2,000 BV.

All mechs must adhere to Total Warfare rules. Sorry, but no MASC/Supercharger combos. Please bring multiple pairings as respawns, if needed, will be allowed.

Does the BV include the pilots or are those seperate?

Will team based systems work only in a players small group or with anyone on the team with the system?

What are "Taggers" and "Runners"?
(My version of CTF may be different than recent versions... too much Quake...).

Not sure if I'll be there, but want to know what the roles are if I do.

I'll be there! Pretty certain my brother will as well. We'll bring a few extra sets of taggers/runners for new players / people who don't have stuff with them.

Looking forward to it!

Will team based systems work only in a players small group or with anyone on the team with the system?
Team systems, like C3 for example, will only work for the player who brings them. They will not work across an entire team.

What are "Taggers" and "Runners"?

Taggers: Mechs who protect your flag. They should be able to hold the base and gun down, or catch, somebody who makes it in and gets your flag.

Runners: The people who go and get the flag. You want them to be fast and tough, able to to get in and get out with the flag.

Capturing the Flag: This must be done with ground MP. Jumping MP will not work to capture the flag. It will take 1 MP to capture the flag from its home base. Should the flag be recovered outside of home base it will take 2 MP to pick up.

Losing the Flag: Anytime a mech must make a PSR to avoid a fall, it will need the same number to retain possession of the flag. A fall is an automatic drop of the flag.

Tagging: If a mech carrying the flag is "tagged" by an enemy unit, that mech immediately drops the flag and may not pick it up again until after it returns to its home map. Tagging must be done on your team's home map in the following ways:
  • Successfully charging a mech carrying the flag.
  • Pushing the mech carrying the flag.
  • Hitting the mech carrying the flag with a TAG.

One of your earlier posts implies, that we can bring custom units.

Here are some final details:

Scoring:
  • Flag Retrieval: The first team to retrieve their flag and put it back in their home base receives 7,500 points. If the other team also retrieves their flag, they receive 5,000 points.
  • Keeping Your Opponent's Flag: Every turn that your opponent's flag remains inside your base (not necessarily on its starting point) your team earns 500 points.
  • Destruction: You earn the BV of each enemy mech that your team kills.
  • Tagging: Your team receives 500 points if you "Tag" an enemy mech.

The game will not end as soon as a flag is retrieved. The winner is the team with the most points. We will play until at least 5 PM.

Can someone bring me a few mech minis so I don't have to worry about forgetting something when I book out of the game early?

At minimum I could use a Raven, a Malak and/or a Komodo.  I also could see using a Wolverine, Rifleman or Crusader.

I will bring extra and try to match your request.

Does that mean 500 points for tagging anybody, or just for tagging a mech that's carrying the flag?

Whatever happened, sorry I missed it.
    I was planning on using either a Parash or a viper/dragonfly B.
Had to make an emergency trip to Iowa.

Put that in for the strangest quote of the year.
