shower curtains, d00d? that sounds awful.

i almost WANT to make you a map now, lol.

i'll tell you one thing that you would def have going for you at that size, though, and that's that the smaller resolution would allow for using a broader array of images. it's really hard to find source images that are high enough res for these maps to look good on a table and not appear pixelated. i'll tell you what... pm me some deetz on what you're looking for.

Not so bad; for aero you need only the hexes... the colour is the killer.  :D

I really do like these, but they're just out of my price range, unfortunately.  I've flown small planes and I have an idea of what aerial photography costs to do right, but I already have what i need in terms of mapsheets and can't justify the expense.

Is there any way you might find to get a cut down version that would be available to build some of these bigger maps?

i don't think i understand what you mean. as in, get your hands on some of the source images, or get a smaller version?

I think he means "breaking" each map into several smaller ones. That would allow a sort of "mix 'n' match" capability that would make battles less predictable.

I think that would be a good idea, but it would be extremely difficult to do so with these maps as-is; recombining them would make for a disjointed terrain for a battle.

i guess that might be more commercially viable, but i really just like them as a "big ass, carry and go" sort of map.

do you guys really like the standard size battletech maps? i always thought they were too small to capture a significant terrain feature such as a mountain or a city.

I don't remember if I've commented on this before, but either way I just looked again and the maps are awesome.

A friend that runs a local print shop says making these type of maps are easy and cost about half of what he's selling them for on E-Bay,also they maps we are going to make can be Laminated for erasable markers,,,also Staples can do this same process too.Down load to a disk and bring it in,,,cost are quite cheep(less than a 20 spot)

@Mapmaster:  The only problem I had with the standard 18"x22.5" BattleTech maps was that terrain features tended to look too "square", i.e. that they were truncated to fit inside a rectangular border.  I've seen some people here at the forums design maps that don't conform to this pattern, though.

That include the working the images in photoshop to getting everything lined up and working with hexes? Or is that just taking a large satellite/aerial photo, slapping hexes on it and hoping in works?

Here's an idea:  You could make a "huge effin map" of something like the Hoover Dam!

[See attached file.]

It would be an interesting variant on all those FASA mapsheets that only have one-hex-wide rivers.

And you could make the dam as high as you wanted to.

As Beavis and Butthead once asked, "Is this a 'god' dam?" >:D

yeah, i've got a high res hoover dam image file that i have yet to dive into. my next one is going to be a lot more like traditional battletech maps with small pockets of elevation, a mountain range some forest, and a canyon... sort of an all-purpose map.

The difference between just taking a big ol' honkin' sat pic and overlaying a hex grid on it and the stuff Mapmaker is doing is that Mapmaker takes the time to make features actually fit the grid, like rivers, streets, buildings, etc.

I have a cool poster-sized hexmap of Epcot and one of Cape Canaveral, but the hexes don't really line up with the features and none of the features is marked.

What blows me away about these maps is the 60/120 degree street intersections and the one-building-per hex.

It could be a bit sharper, the colors are great! the layout for certain streets is a bit awkward, but overall great product!

The only ting i'd critizize(spelling? that does not look right <.<) is the fact that the hex lines are a bit hard to see in places . .
Of course, i don't know wether or not this holds true for the real life versions too, or if that is only the case on these pictures.

Also on the hilly ones, i didn't see anything indicating levels for those hills.

But to the OP..  Man those are very nice.
