Miniature of the Fortnight #17: Commando
« on: 16 May 2017, 00:02:48 »
I'm sorry this is going up late.  The "fun" of work never ends...

But enough of excuses!  This fortnight, we're going to look at the old Lyran standby, the Commando.  The Commando has been with us since TRO 3025 and it hasn't changed much over the years.

I'm not sure if there are two or three sculpts:
  • There's the original sculpt released by Ral Partha as 20-865.
  • There's the modern sculpt currently available from IWM as 20-865.
  • There's the beginners set sculpt which looks the same as the current sculpt but possibly with an integrated base.
  • And there's the plastic miniatures in the modern boxed sets, which are likely based on the beginners set sculpt.
If anyone has more information, I'd like to hear it.

Please post any miniatures you'd like to share.  Like always, you can post 'Mechs you've already painted or 'Mechs you plan to paint during this fortnight.

As always, thank you for reading and a special thank you to those who post!

Next fortnight's 'Mech will be the Fire Moth (Dasher).

Woo! First.
Here we are with a Commander COM-2Dr from the Marian Hegemony circa 3145ish.

Needs decals, basing, and maybe a little touch up.

If the Commando IIc is legit, too...

A Commando IIc from Hells Horses Delta Galaxy. I can't say i like the Commando IIc, mostly because of the stretched right arm. Mounted in a wrong way and it does the german greeting... which i would avoid like the plague.

Plus an old Commando in Lyran Regulars colors. As this is one of my early painting experiences, a modern sculpt is in the pipeline designated to replace this one and sending this one to the Aceton.

Here is a beginners set Commando in progress.  While it may look like a Kell Hounds theme, I'm actually going for a True Value (my team  O0 ) vs Home Depot thing for work using the beginners set lance packs from IWM.  They will be sitting on the window sill of my office once I'm all done.  I hope to at least have the Commando done before this fortnight is over.  Oh, and with a better picture.  Sorry for the blurries...

Luciora, are there close-ups of the Freyr anywhere? If not, could I ask you to take a few?
"Well, I do, Marcus, and rule number one of the MAC has always been that the man with the plan leads. If we get shot up, I'm the first one to get my ticket punched. There are no flags in the MAC."
"And there never will be," Barton said, nodding his head in agreement.

"You guys are facing a freaking Shadow Division! These guys have strict policies against playing fair!"

"I don’t care. Kill them. I planned the defense so I know it will work. If they claim otherwise, they’re cowards. Any step back is a betrayal of me, and saying they don’t have enough men is just an excuse for incompetence and disloyalty. Tell the Krypteia to do it if you’re too soft but get it done." -Emperor Stefan Ukris Amaris I

Probably my favorite Commando I ever painted was this Nueva Castille one from a decade ago.  The colors just did what I asked of them that day.

One of my favourite minis.

Thank you!
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.
