Overview:
The Whitworth ER is another test model developed by the Filtvelt Coalition.
This modified version replaces the LRM-10s with a single Extended LRM-10 and
three tons of ammunition. Engineers also added a single Small Laser to the
torso. The ammunition is protected by CASE, as CASE II is beyond Filtvelt's
industrial base at this time. In a first, the Coalition also added a C3 Slave:
The FCM doesn't currently use this technology but thought it might appeal to
AFFS units.

Capabilities:
The updated Whitworth fills the same role as the Apollo or Pandarius. A single
Extended LRM-10 isn't a huge weapon, but mounting it on a light and
maneuverable platform does offer many tactical advantages. The Whitworth's top
speed of 64km/h is adequate for a fire support unit, particularly one whose
main weapon reaches over a kilometer. The 120 meter jump capability also adds
more tactical flexibility.

The combination of weapon range and mobility makes the Whitworth-ER a decent
refit for a much maligned chassis. The fact that it drops the head mounted
medium laser for a C3 slave only makes it more appealing.

The only possible drawback to the Whitworth-ER is the lack of an updated heat
dissipation system. If a pilot isn't careful, they can quickly overwhelm the
heat system with jumping and weapon attacks.

From the FCM's viewpoint, the fact that this is largely a weapons swap instead
of a full rebuild makes it much more appealing. There is no need to build a
factory or perform heavy maintenance modifications. The refitted Whitworths can
be deployed rapidly to any unit that needs them.

Not a bad refit. To be honest, unless the mechwarrior is an ace or an idiot, I can’t see how heat would be an issue, since except for max range of the mediums, you’re probably not in any position to fire both the LRMs and the lasers.

Yeah, that's a good point.
