Clan Names in Megamek

This is sort of my way of starting a petition for getting the Clan Mechs to have Clan Names first again. I am having a Dickens of a time trying to find mechs because they have listed them by their Spheroid names first, then the clan name in single quotes. I put another way in the list as I usually list mechs for new players with parenthesis, works good for us.

Things will stay as they are. MM is using the Master Unit List as a base for the unit names and the MUL has them as we have them now (at least mostly, haven't had time do go through all of it, yet).
While I won't stop you from starting a petition, it won't change anything.

I tend to pick and choose which name I prefer, but let's be honest, the designs are Clan designs, and it really kind of follows that they should be listed by the proper names that their builders intended for them

The MUL is wrong, really. The reporting name should be in quotes, not the real name. 'Course griping at the MegaMek devs isn't going to do much for that. :P

Agreed. And it's such a minor thing overall. I actually am about 50/50 with which name I prefer. Most of the Clan mechs from Mechwarrior 2, which was my first exposure to Battletech, I prefer the Clan names. Since then it's been a mild preference for the IS names.

a more productive thing, and one I could contribute to, is a custom mechset.txt addition and a set of renamed files. its not like we can't add to megamek.

^Very true, I'm just not sure it's really worth it. it's such a small issue overall. It'd be an undertaking unfortunately more annoying than I'd want to involve myself in. Now, if ya'll want to do it, though, I can't say I would download it  ;)

The MUL was told what the standard is by TPTB.  So even calling us, in addition to the MegaMek devs, wrong won't help you. :)

(However, the MUL lists them Inner Sphere (Clan), not Inner Sphere 'Clan', that might be a function of the megamek software? )

Sadly, yes.
When I tried naming them Inner Sphere (Clan) the Clan name was not shown. It works with HMP-files, but interestingly not with MTF. No idea why. Should it get worked on at some point (and I guess it is reeeeaaaaaly low on anybody's priority list), I will change the names to the Inner Sphere (Clan) standard. But until then: it is as it is ;)

On a related note, mechset.txt really should have it all four ways. Having a bunch of custom and unofficial variants and configurations suddenly without graphics is kind of annoying.

You can always whip up you own custom mechset (there is a mechset version included, especially for that). I will not start to include anything custom in the MM mechset. It is enough work as it is.

I've got both sets for download read and corrected as far as each endo-steel critical go as per the most actual TROs.

1) Clan names pure.

2) Inner Sphere (Clan) Darkisi, in case you need em later on.

I can send it to anyone who pms me. The files could get added later on to the projects page? After all, no new clan units on the coming TROs are having this kind of trouble anymore, given that they get a fix name.
