Nigel's Battlemech Detailing.
« on: 01 December 2022, 20:56:00 »
Nigel Pakenham was a tech in the Taurian Concordat until 3045 when he left Taurian Service and made his way to Outreach. Upon arrival he met up with Ferdinand Munoz who had formerly served as an analyst for SAFE but was caught on the wrong side of a bureaucratic feud between to department heads. Rather than hire out as technical staff or starve they pooled their resources and headed out to Solaris to detail battlemechs and hire more technical staff in the hopes of making lots of money in the arenas and owning a stable. Things turned out differently, more than either of the two founders imagined.

By 3060 they had quite the business going with four teams of detail technicians working the fight circuit in all classes. Business was booming and a new cash source had developed, corporate espionage. For the next several years the detailing business boomed. Hundreds of clients were using their services and saving millions of C-Bills a year versus hiring their own astechs to do the work. Corporations were willing to pay top C-Bill for the information that was gathered on performance and new tech that appeared.

The company went to ground during the Jihad years but reappeared in 3079 offering their services once again but offering franchises.

GM Notes: In truth this was a product of a conversation with a coworker who thought a Battlemech detailing service would make a great cover for a clandestine intel gathering/sabotage unit. Each "team" is usually no more than a Lance/platoon in size and consists of light vees and portable lifts. (See below for a sample tech platoon/Team.)

Tech team (7techs)- 5 ton truck
Tech team (7techs)- Boom truck (bucket lift)
Tech team (7techs)- Boom truck (bucket lift)
Tech team (7techs)- Tanker truck (water tanker)
Parts runner team- 4 jeeps (2 techs each)
Service writer team -((4 service writers) service writers ride with parts runner team one per jeep.))

Rumor has it that these teams are actually house intelligence operatives or high-end mercenaries employed by various arms manufacturers.

* Not limited to battlemechs other equipment types could be used.

Thoughts and ideas are appericiated. This might make an amusing addition to a campaign depending on the group.

A rather unique idea, and one that can make a lot of money as corporate espionage experts.  I salute your creativity, and hope they did some honorable work taking down the Blakist occupation of Solaris.
