With him being unconventional, and according to my wife, and making a joke about the Oscars on General Hospital today I think he was being a jackass on purpose...supported by drugs or not.

He reminds me of "River Phoenix Lite", and I liked him, too, but he was just a little too self destructive...

I'll say this for Franco: I don't know of any other actor or performer who took over 60 credit hours a semester to get his degree in two years, then got a master's from Columbia in two more, and is working on his PhD in English at Yale while making movies, writing novels, hosting the Oscars and appearing on daytime TV shows. Ol' boy's got my respect. And that's a rare commodity.

So that's why he look uninterested to be at the show (according to critics). It is said he appeared distant and was stiff as a statue on stage.
