. . . except, after 100 years, its not outrageous amounts of money.  While I am not sure you can say XXLs are in common production, they are not one off hand builds any more.

How do you MechJocks create your units? Like where do you start at... Heaviest hitter and then round down or more talent like oversinked LRM racks verse multi- Pulsed / SRM boat configs?

I'm currently reshaping my 32nd Regulan Hussars, " Truetankers Own ", an AU unit. Pretty much a standard Regulan reinforced combined arms company of 2 Tank Platoons, a Mech Lance and a Infantry Company with a single Air Lance for support.

Currently I have included a much older version of the Intruder, of Liao origins, and a older Confederate model to transport my unit. I've previously selected Ontos when the unit was first made, since upgraded to Ontos LGR and MML. ( Currently have two and three models respectfully, in a Tank Platoon. )

Regulan rules state at least 8 Trebuchets per Hussar Regiment, in a lance formation, so a ancient -3C model fits my goal. Yes I know it's old, but this unit was dragooned to work together. I've paired it with a Firestarter-OF to help keep it out of trouble... this leaves me 5 tanks, and 2 mechs open.

Year is 3160, so what middle aged machines would fit here? My two Platoons of Infantry are Heavy Support Infantry, supported by two captured WoB Heavy Wheeled APCs to transport them, these are supported by a Scout Hetzer and a LRM Hetzer. I even have a single Squad of Quirinus Battle Armor. I've picked up a pair of older model F-90-S, yeah the AC/5 one.

I want to include something interesting that can make this unit odd enough to try out. So two mechs, and 5 more vehicles are needed. Tired of rolling randomly, ya know?

TT

That sounds interesting.

I know it's been a few months, but I got stuck in the BTI Facebook group and what a toxic pit that is! - but I wanted to chip in to Weirdo's Atlas question a while back.  I use a -7D as a bodyguard for an assault-weight Command & Fire Lance in level 1 play.  Because get nervous about closing on an Awesome, Stalker, and Longbow when Old Painless is riding shotgun.

Does anybody know about Marik Militia units not going around in parade scheme? I know that most units actually don't, but for some reason I picked up the notion that the Militia were one of the exceptions.

To be honest, at least in my headcanon, unless it's specifically called out that a unit uses appropriate camo, I assume they use their parade schemes even in combat. After all, it is a little silly to try to disguise a 12-meter-tall engine of destruction (even Dazzle camo on ships wasn't meant to hide them so much as make it extremely tough to discern their speed and direction). And there's rule of cool both in and out of universe -- the parade livery is the equivalent of a Napoleonic Hussar's jacket, meant to show esprit de corps, no mater how impractical it may be.

For something a little more canon-y, there are pictures showing the Militia fighting in their parade scheme (such as the cover of Brush Wars)

You say they cannot hide . . . but I have to wonder how many people who say that have dealt with camo'd vehicles and camo nets.

On the other side, if something happens and the unit is painted in a parade scheme it would be awfully weird of them to avoid combat while they tried to repaint their gear.

So, who is backing the KS and which formation do you intend to paint up your IS mechs for the glory of the League (or someone else, Regulus in my case . . . ).

2nd Regulan Hussars here. Doing a Green Monster Battalion

Yep. The game is not hiding the 'mech from people in close proximity, the game is hiding it from orbital recce or disguising the type/weight class from someone observing with binoculars.

To give a famous example (sorry, I just came off a battlefield tour): at Villers-Bocage, a British armoured regiment drove up to within 10-20 metres of Michael Wittmann's Tigers without knowing they were there...

Amusingly enough when I had painted Mechs in camo they even got lost on the mapsheet.  Which is kind of amusing because my opponent moved right into a HBKs short range

That's happened to me before. Ended my move with my back to an enemy mech, because I literally did not see the mini. :-[

I'm sure I've said this before, but remember the game setting for use of camo. Alien worlds can mean terrain and flora that could make camo practical. At least one novel (maybe Heir to the Dragon) mentions trees with a high enough iron content to disrupt mag-scan for mech so other natural features could be disruptive to other sensors.
Of course alien ecologies also mean that camo colours may be a little strange.

I'll probably do something in purple and white, ala the Free Worlds guards. But that will have to wait for another day.  Perhaps an assault lance of an Awesome, Stalker, Battlemaster and Goliath.  We can make a decent variant of the Goliath somehow...

I'd imagine for the most part that camo is dependent on what else is going on. Garrison duty on Argyle? Parade colors. Guerrilla campaign across the border? Camo. Marching in a parade on Atreus? Parade colors (and a closed canopy). Clans attacking you in a swamp? Camo. Settling a score with Count Rifkin who sullied your mother's honor? Parade colors.

The Project Phoenix rebuilds were not very kind to the Goliath.  The Periphery refits took care of some of the short range issues, but the 3 or 4S has the best all around weaponry layout.  Personally I would have like to have seen an r refit of the older 3050 era mechs that didn't get one, but that is a hope long since gone with garbage like the Quickdraw r... Perhaps I'll put together a refit thread over in the Fan Designs room for the 3050 designs and the neverending lack of field refits we should have seen in 3050 and beyond.

After playing a few games with it as the key contributor, I feel like I can conclusively say the Carronade is really good.

The Juliano is also pretty good, but so far I haven't had a reason to fire the ER Larges more than three times (collectively) in an entire game.  I wish there was a variant that swapped the three ER Larges and one DHS for two LPLs and Radical Heat Sinks.

They're not bad guns, it's just that there are more efficient things out there. If you're willing or able to get close enough, large pulse lasers will carve things up just as well as anything else. For big 4/6 movers, I rather like them as a heavy secondary gun.

Sure, but on the Juliano they would not be secondary guns- that is the ERMLs.
