Campaigns between each pair of IS houses
« on: 12 July 2019, 12:30:51 »
I'm organizing campaigns for a bunch of friends (Alpha Strike, by the way). Each one has picked a different successor state. Depending on who is available on any given game night, I'd like to go with any pair of players, and therefore any pair of houses.

It's easy enough do the generic planetary assault campaign, but it would be interesting to build a more detailed campaign that ties in the lore or canonical planets and whatnot.

What are some good scenarios that would work for each itteration of paired successor states?  Obvious ones like Kurita/Davion are easy enough, but are there any that could be used in a Kurita/Marik campaign?  Marik/Davion, Liao/Steiner, etc/etc...

Might be a good idea to set your campaigns during the 1st Succession War. The former Hegemony worlds were pretty much a free-for-all in the early stages, and everybody fought everybody else.

If you want to avoid that, things get a bit harder. It was pretty rare for Houses to fight against folks they didn't share a border with. For Steiner/Liao or Davion/Marik conflicts, you could look to the 4th Succession War and the fighting that claimed the worlds to form the Sarna March, or Operation Guerrero, when said area collapsed into the Chaos March. Come to think of it, the 4th War gives you a good backdrop for just about everything. Kurita/Liao and Kurita/Marik is a bit harder, but you could frame them as deniable raids by "pirates" during the time leading up to the forming of the Concord of Kapteyn, aimed at destabilizing one party to give another an edge in the negotiations.

Kurita/Marik would be either during the “Ghost Protocol” raid on Helm in the First Succession War or during the ComStar interdiction of the FWL in the 2nd Succession War.

Marik/Davion is rare, but the FWL did hire mercs in the early 3020s to hit Davion targets in support of their new Kapteyn allies.

Steiner raided Carver V in the 3010s, setting up a Steiner/Liao conflict.

Liao and Kurita clashed over the world of Lincoln (not mapped) during the 3rd Succession War and also battled each other when they shared a border close to Terra (before the AFFS re-opened the Kentares Finger corridor to Terra).

Davion once raided Hesperus II, if you want pre-Civil War Steiner Davion conflict.
"We have made of New Avalon a towering funeral pyre and wiped the Davion scourge from the universe.  Tikonov, Chesterton and Andurien are ours once more, and the cheers of the Capellan people nearly drown out the gnashing of our foes' teeth as they throw down their weapons in despair.  Now I am made First Lord of the Star League, and all shall bow down to me and pay homa...oooooo! Shiny thing!" - Maximillian Liao, "My Triumph", audio dictation, 3030.  Unpublished.

Davion once raided Hesperus II, if you want pre-Civil War Steiner Davion conflict.

Davion troops also hit Thorin, Rocky and New Earth. That last-named was the site of a naval battle if you're looking for aerospace combat.

For Marik-Davion, the fighting on Callison and Marcus in the War of 3039 saw FWLM units pitted against AFFS defenders.

"The Succession Wars solved no problem. Their effects, both immediate and indirect, were either negative or disastrous. Morally subversive, economically destructive, socially degrading, confused in their causes, devious in their course, futile in their results, they are the outstanding example in Spheroid history of meaningless conflict."
