Question: Big Demolisher tank
« on: 08 April 2018, 05:03:06 »

Is this a regular sized gaming mini or more like museumesque display figurine?

It was originally a gaming mini back when this game was called Battledroids.  Everyone realized that it was too big for a hex and it got a re-sculpt.

Very large. But you know what? Totally worth having. It's an excellent sculpt that is great for table-top play rather than hex-map play.

I'm in the middle of converting mine into a Chinese Dragon "cybertank" for use in the game Ogre.

Actually, here's a picture that better shows just how BIG it is.

That's it, second from the right, as compared to a 1/285 scale tank, a Hunter missile tank, the "new" Demolisher, an Ogre Mk. III, a standard 25mm human, and an Imp BattleMech. It's huge.

I imagine that for folks who play with N-scale minis, it might be a good size.

Also: That is a damn fine conversion, Bosch!

Mine only saw service once, as a proxy for a mobile orbital defense system (like from the Mechwarrior 4 games). It didn't move during the game, and wasn't statted out as a support vehicle- instead it had only basic building-style stats, for simplicities' sake. The players were supposed to capture or destroy it, while at the same time liberate a nearby prison camp.

The camp was a trap- the Blakists had been trying to nail down the mercs for weeks, and the camp was long-since abandoned. But they leaked info to the mercs that political prisoners were held there, and when the players arrived they immediately came under fire from WoBS Deliverance (Essex-class). By capturing the orbital defense vehicle, they were able to fire a few shots back and chase off the ship, and save much of their unit from being blasted to hell from orbit. (Of note, it did kill a Victor and a few others, but to my irritation as the GM an Atlas actually survived a hit and escaped with severe damage). The players then had the engineer infantry that had captured and used the vehicle use demo charges to destroy it when they withdrew from the area.

Of note, the vehicle had several small pulse lasers and AMS systems for defense, a single large laser, and the two sub-orbital cannons, which it was NOT allowed to aim at units lower than Lv. 2- so it couldn't target Mechs on level ground. It COULD aim at a unit that got up on nearby hills- sadly, the mercs never did give me the chance to try it before the capture.

I've been meaning to convert mine into a Soarece. Shouldn't be too hard, depending on how much surface detail I want to replicate and how much I want to chalk up to refits and alternate factories.

I still have my original Battledroids Demolished NIB. I may have to add it to the RCT.  ;)

Mine only saw service once, as a proxy for a mobile orbital defense system (like from the Mechwarrior 4 games).

It might also make a good proxy for a Destrier or Teppo.
