I stumbled over the second paragraph of the Firmir Commercial writeup in the new Liao book. This paragraph describes Firmir only moving into laser weapons manufacture in the wake of the Fourth Succession War. The Brutus Assault Tank (TRO3058U, page 108) uses Firmir MaxiLase large lasers but began manufacture in the late 30th century on Epsilon Eridani.
For the record, Firmir Commercial's description is consistent with the older data from the House Liao: The Capellan Confederation book produced under FASA and available on the website; the description is on page 121, but that book does not mention weapons one way or the other.
The timing on all of this just seems a bit odd.
