Clan Chatterweb / The Remembrance: Mostly Boat Lists?
« Last post by Vehrec on Today at 09:20:24 »
it seems to me that, as a work of epic poetry, the Remembrance ought to consist largely of epic catalogues.  The most famous example of this is the exhaustive, 29 contingent, 46 captain, 1186 ship long list in the Illiad, but these are also found in The Faerie Queene, the Aeneiad, and Paradise Lost. Oh, and the Illiad has a second, shorter list that details the Order of Battle for the trojans.  They seem to be useful to a Loremaster-useful context for battles and history as well as getting the Bloodnamed excited to hear that they are recorded in a line of the Remembrance-if only as a name and a mech-and useless to a novelist or most rulebook writers.  Which would neatly explain why, even if the Clans use a lot of catalogues in their epics, we don't see a lot of them-they're dull and repetitive and we don't need to name every warrior who participated in Operation Revival.

Though, I do think that a 'boat list' of all the Bloodnamed who participated in that campaign would be a nice thing to have.  Maybe make that the canonical catalogue portion of the Remembrance, if the authors would be so kind?

On another note, Sun-Tzu may have been the shrewdest politician in the IS, over that period.

Quick thoughts on my two teams last night:

Bruins: Expected... kind of. The Leafs were against the wall, not just the end of their season but the end of their TEAM. Losing another first round series almost certainly means an enormous overhauls in Toronto, with key people (coaches especially) likely out the door. This is it, this is the Leafs core as we know it on the line, so they were always going to show up with their A-level game. Anything less only justifies the teardown to follow. That said, the B's were shockingly bad in the first 30 minutes or so- two shots on net in the first period of a playoff game? TWO? And yet the team that laid that egg still went to OT and nearly won it. I'm not worried right now- I think a more even effort closes things out on Thursday.

Avalanche: Good lord. Just... they took the likely-Vezina winner behind the woodshed and beat the tar out of him five games in a row. I can't think of the last time I watched a top-tier goalie get absolutely torched like that. I noted before that this was less of an ass-kicking of the Jets and more of a warning to every other team left in the playoffs, and while the Stars and Knights are tied at this writing, both have to be looking ahead a little and raising their eyebrows. Dallas at least has a very good goalie in Oettinger- Vegas, I have zero faith in their ability to stop the Avs. Maybe keep up in high-scoring games, but not STOP them.

Side note, Cale Makar. Since 2005, only four defensemen have more playoff points than Makar does- Hedman, Keith, Letang, Carlson. That's it, those four. Now, part of that means the Avs have made deep playoff runs for him to get points in, same as the others, but... he's ahead in that time period of other deep-playoff defensemen like Doughty, Chara, MacAvoy, etc., and of the four ahead of him, three are surefire Hall of Fame players (sorry, Carlson).

The big one? Makar made his debut in 2019.

Cycling is supposed to be non-impact, but may not be an option with your knee being as it is. Check with your doc.

I've got a small form factor 'desk' cycle I use so I can exercise while working/watching TV.

You can also make them smaller in your post. Inside the image tag, you add width=XXX where XXX is the number of pixels wide you want the picture to be.

So Helldivers II grew on me a little bit. I think I play it a little more than the partner I usually play it with does these days. I actually outrank him now. lol

I also have one achievement left to unlock. Gotta get some folks together to help me throw six orbital barrage stratagems into one place. Can't manage that with randos, I don't think. Probably gonna go for it on a low-difficulty drop, where the consequences don't matter a whole lot.

I wonder which barrages count for the purposes of the achievement. There are two I am pretty certain count. If the walking barrage counts too, then it's probably doable with two people, but I don't know that for certain yet.

Yep - I need that one as well, but I was able to get the achievement with my son of the Level 7+ Drop where no one fires their main weapon, so we did a defense drop (the ones where you just sit at the drop sit killing Bugs) and tossed out soo many turrets/orbital bombs. We also did the strip the arms off a hulk and extract with it still alive.

Denver... ok, so, here's the thing. They're getting blasted, but what was the option for them? As options go, they did pretty well.

They were at #12, but with the trades of prior years they didn't have a great deal to throw in to move up to get one of the top-tier spots for someone like Maye. They had to essentially stay put and hope someone like Nix or Penix fell to them... and then watched the Falcons punch themselves in the groin with the bizarre Penix pick.

So, there's only one remaining major QB on the board that one could turn into a starter in the next year or two, and that's Nix. Is he the best choice in the draft? Well... no. I'm not sold on Caleb Williams being the future for the Bears- his attitude seems to overshadow the talent, I'm really worried he's our next Ryan Leaf/Johnny Manziel guy, gobs of talent and a head case enough to work himself out of the job anyway. But beyond that, I think Maye was the best choice out there overall. Denver had no path to get him, they were going to end up with Penix or Nix, and they got the latter. Is that bad?

Nix is an old rookie- that's negative in that he's that much further than others into his prime already before he takes a snap. He's also been a college QB for five years between Auburn and Oregon, and he's performed very well- he learns the playbook better than many, and seems to be pretty hard to rattle in the pocket. That all fits what Payton likes to run- he's not Drew Brees, but he's closer to that mold in those ways than other rookies might have been (or Zach Wilson, obviously). Bringing in Nix's favorite reciever at Oregon will hopefully help him adjust, giving him his familiar security-blanket on one side of the field and the incomparable Courtland Sutton on the far side. That's solid.

This isn't going to be a good team this year. Period. I'm still leaning towards 5-12 being a good season for them. But the next few years, with Nix at the helm? I have hope, something I haven't had at QB since Manning left. So while I'm under no impression the Broncos are getting a top-tier QB here, they got as good as they could have- and kept Nix from going to Vegas, just as importantly. I'm pretty happy overall.

Maybe a rowing machine?

thoughtful of them to let people know who to shoot to turn a retreat into a rout :)

When the Star League says they're there for the benefit of ALL of humanity, that includes their enemies!

I'm planning a slightly non-canon - either another cluster, or a "2nd Falcon Sentinels" trinary. Olive green with dark yellow trim, with yellow beak & falcon eyes, and no feathers.

Sounds like my plan for doing "the 2nd dawnguards" "........ DIAGONAL YELLOW? PFFT NOOOOOO!" :)

Both of you. Get on the Shadowy CSO Paint Scheme Council. NOW.
