Question about the 1st and 4th Davion Guards
« on: 22 February 2013, 09:34:43 »
Forgive me if I'm wrong for I don't have the book open before me. However IIRC FM:FS states that it was the 1st Davion Guards that were on Mallory's World and were saved by Ian's heroic sacrifice while the Historical states that it was the 4th Guards. I know that the latter trumps the former but I am curious as to the reasoning behind the change. Will you enlighten me?

Can you be more specific on which Historical.

Newer does trump older, when it was done on purpose. At present, without checking behind the development curtain, I think this is an error in the Historical you mention. The First is the bodyguard unit of the First Prince.

Mallory's World. FM:FS states in the First's write up that: "They were Prince Ian Davion's chosen, and though he died on Mallory's World while in command of the unit, he fell while defending his men."

Historical: Mallory's World however states that the only Davion Guard unit there was the Fourth and Ian was in command of them and not the First.

What was Ian's reasoning then for not having his preferred unit by his side?

That's undocumented.
The solution is just ignore Paul.

What was Ian's reasoning then for not having his preferred unit by his side?

Remember that the 4th was at that time the primary DG unit assigned to the Draconis March. They were Ian's eyes and ears on the Dragon's border.

It is likely they were already there and Ian moved to join up with them.

However, as Paul has said, this has never been documented, so the exact reason is left to some future writing or forever to speculation.

That makes sense. I would of preferred the Historical to be in error but it's nice to see other DG units in the spotlight now and then  :)
