Neon Kunoichi
« on: 23 September 2019, 22:14:08 »
So we've been playing around with Merc units and looking at FM:Mercs and Combat Ops and so I figured I'd post it here for the heck of it, a little bit at a time.

The game is set in 3025 with an AU twist. We're using ISAW for combat rolls, and we're trying out CO for contracts and unit management (though we started with buying units ala MW1). Units for the Neon Kunoichi were selected by rolling for weights and then rolling on the 3039 RATs, which lead to a bit of oddities, which are passed off as one offs/knock offs, etc.

Up first, the CO.

Background
Born into the nobility on the planet Soverzene in the Alshain Prefecture of the Rasalhague District of the Draconis Combine, Machiko’s early life was as free as anyone’s can be in the Draconis Combine. Despite being in the Rasalhague District, Machiko’s family was staunchly loyal to the Dragon, and took no part in the near-rebellious activities that plagued the District. As an only child, Machiko was expected to do her duty for the Dragon, and to ensure her success, she was enrolled in a prestigious military school. Graduating near the top of her class, and with her family’s influence behind her, Machiko made it into the Sun Tzu School of combat, and even managed to enroll in the school’s office program.

After graduating, she was assigned to the 22nd Rasalhague Regulars, serving as a lance commander. Her Tour of Duty was filled with the typical border raiding by Steiner and their mercenaries, with little to distinguish it. It wasn’t until near the end of her Tour that disaster struck.

A rival noble on Soverzene had attacked her family, destroying their standing and reputation by fabricating evidence that implicated the Samatsus in anti-Combine activities. Her father tried to fight back, but the damage was done, and he died in disgrace and with him the family’s influence died as well. Machiko was dismissed from the DCMS in disgrace, and sold to the Watanabe-regno, a Yakuza group that had helped the noble with the destruction of Machiko’s family.

She spent 5 long years as a slave to the Yakuza, slowly biding her time. Her natural abilities helped her immensely as she slowly gathered power to herself.  When the Yakuza Oyabun and the noble that ruined her family hired a mercenary unit to increase their power, Machiko saw her opportunity, using her natural leadership abilities to get her claws into the unit. Eventually she was able to ruin the plans of the noble and Oyabun and fled with the mercenary unit. The fighting left most of the mercenary leadership in shambles, and so Machiko stepped in, and by the time the unit arrived on Galatea, the Neon Kunoichi mercenary unit had been formed.

The CO was built as an after thought when we were deciding if we wanted to use CO or FM:Mercs, and I did it mostly as a lark.

The base was 8000 XP and was made with the Rasalhague affiliation from ER 2750, with the Nobility, Military School, Military Academy (Basic and MW Training), OCS, ToD: IS, and Organized Crime Life Paths. 400 XP was bought with negative traits, so theoretically I could spend gain another 400 for tweaks.

Gear is just really "Pick what looks interesting." but since its a CO rather than a simple PC, I didn't go all out.

All this was rolled using a RAT, which is why there are quite a few repeats (I didn't think of Xotl's work until afterwards). It was also left in the order I rolled it, for a more organic 3025 look, rather than going back and trying to sort everything into a more structured unit.

Can't believe I rolled a Peregrine.

Can't believe someone put a Peregrine on a RAT...

Infantry are considered to have Magna Laser rifles and DCMS uniforms (it was easier), and the Long Tom units are 3 squads of 10 each.

Ah, I was wondering why there were Hetzers mixed in with your hover tanks.  I'd at least sort those out so you can use at least one of those Light Vehicle Companies as 8/12 cavalry.

As you can see, 8,000 XP really gets you a LOT.  On balance, I suppose it's less scary that you dumped most of it into Attributes vice skills.  Also, don't forget to buy SPAs...

We're using ISAW, so it doesn't really matter if they're spread out..i think. If my GM lets me know we're doing things via AS or something, then it might matter at the company scale.

In the beginning, I rolled for a regular commander, so I didn't want to go too far with the skills. SPAs are a possibility, but I need to kick Gunnery and Piloting up another level, though I guess maybe some of the non-Gunnery/Piloting might be available, I'd have to check again.

8k was fun, and got sort of goofy. I tried to make it as much of a real character, rather than just going nuts, which is why I went with the Life Paths rather than just Point Buy. I knew it was time to stop tweaking when I realized that Natural Aptitude Negotiation was only 300 points...

I think technically the only thing I cheated on a bit was that technically Attractive is supposed to only apply to one of the character's IDs, but since the Cosmetic Enhancement is supposed to be physical changes, I figured it didn't make much sense to apply it to only one of the IDs, though since I could gain up to 400 XP from purchasing negative traits, I'm not too worried about it.

I thought overall unit movement had an effect at the ISAW level, but I could be wrong...

It could, we're still playing around with the system. I was under the impression that since it was at Battalion level, it wouldn't matter, though I suppose there could be rounding issues someplace.

I could've sworn I posted this already...
