Oh, man. The Thunder/Lao Hu article will be something of a mega article.
What's the character limit for a post?

If it's going to be that big, why not split them into two separate articles?  The mechs are close but not that close.

I did an article over 9000 words once, but that was an older version of the boards, so I can't say if that would work still.  I agree, for a monster a two parter would be easier to digest.

Yeah, i think splitting will happen. 16.5k characters, over 2600 words currently (4 hours of writing). I am a bit long-winded but i don't think i can trim that much without making things too dry.
Will need to write better introduction to the Lao Hu though.

EDIT I separated tactical comments for each variant for clarity's sake. If i can consolidate them, the word count will go down quite a bit. It is not like most variants of either 'Mech are THAT different.
Still probably best to keep these 'Mechs separate.

EDIT2 AARGH, i hate editing phase. So boring. So glad spelling checkers and such exist...

EDIT3 Amusing. Even as i split the articles and adjusted them like consolidating tactical notes sections as much as i could, i managed to make at least the Thunder article even longer. Oh, well, they look good to me.
I still think i'll post them at once the next Friday, being related designs. Or would it be better to space them out?

I'd tell you to do the Thunder first, let its pros and cons sink in, then in a week once everyone has had a chance to digest the Thunder do the Lao Hu.  Coming on the heels of the Vindicator, it will show a nice evolution of Cappie mech design (though perhaps the Cataphract would have served better).

We have article for the Cataphract already. Probably need to bump it in few days, to prepare people?
I can always find something to say about Cappie 'Mechs.

After reading through my articles, it is probably best to keep apart completely.

Oh, well, with that done i can move on to... Maybe the Bombardier. Been intending to write about that at some point. And since various IS heavy cavalry 'Mechs have been getting covered...

What's the character limit for a post?

The character limit for a single post is a little under 30,000 characters.

Ask me how I know. ^-^

...not great.  It stalled a couple months ago when I got full-time, and I haven't had time to revisit it yet.  Also I got about a quarter of the way through it, and was at nearly 12,000 words. :-\

And i thought i was long-winded at 2600 words  O0

I'm kinda insane too though. As i noted somewhere, i'm thinking i'll write about the Celestial series. My personal deadline for it is June 6th (well, the week, one article per day) but we'll see if that'll work out...

Vindi with the update ended up about that at 2635.  I suppose now I need to find some mech and do more than 14000 words on it, just because I'm an idiot and I'm the sort to regard the very existence of an article like the Banshee as a challenge.  I can't think of anything with enough variants to make it, since the really prolific mechs (the Unseen and 3050 Omnis, for example) are mostly done.

Do it on a family of 'Mechs.  Or one that has variants in every single era, where there are new comparisons to be made.  The Wolverine strikes as one, with a Primitive, Unseen, Reseen, Wolverine II, and Conjurer (Hellhound) all "fitting" in one article.

Would that they hadn't all already been done, I'd gladly take it on.  Problem with letting things run for six years, I guess, with out a big crash (not that I want a big crash, mind you).  If I'm do write 15000 words, I'd like for them to cover new ground and be of interest to folks.  There are a few "Classic" mechs uncovered (I noticed there's no Awesome, for example) but none that are like the Wolverine or Marauder or Phoenix Hawk.  Maybe a massive article covering the "Ost" family, (they were all done back in the day, but looks like no new one).  That looks like it may be the best option, unless anyone else sees something I missed.

So maybe some time over the summer, put me down for Idiotic Ost Family Super Suffer-fest Article!

Though honestly, as with the Thunder and Lao Hu, it would undoubtedly be better if it were split into several, so doing a super article would really only be an exercise in my own vanity.

My eyes glaze over when i see something about the Free Worlds League  :P
EDIT Not really. I the faction but only few of its 'Mechs, not counting some brilliant upgrades they made for older 'Mechs (eg 3050 Archer, Shadow Hawk and Wolverine).

I'm sure Hellbie will notice it.

Thanatos article written and edited. Schedule it sometime after the Thunder and Lao Hu (and probably something between these and the Thanatos, i'm sure people would prefer not to have read about heavy cavalry designs for three weeks in a row).

And now to work on the Bombardier or Tian-Zong...

EDIT Wrote the Tian-zong article too. Schedule it... before the Thanatos but after the Thunder and Lao Hu. And leave space for other people too.
I'm somehow manic at the moment, writing so much. If only i could put this much effort in my novel ideas :/

I can do the Firestarter Omni if no one else wants it. I don't have a ton of experience with it (more with the regular Firestarter) but I looked at its configs the other day and its definitely interesting. I have most of my Ha Otoko article written, although I need to edit it, and so the Firestarter won't be ready for a few weeks probably.

No, I actually deserve criticism for it. I meant to get that done last week, meant to get the Eyrie written up, meant to do laundry, buy groceries, all the other things I can't seem to find time to do anymore, and accomplished exactly none of it. Now I'm wearing my last clean pair of suit pants, considering the finer points of mustard for dinner, and still haven't done anything about the schedule.

So... grocery shopping, then I'll see what I can put together on the schedule. If you have an article that you want to do in the next few weeks, PM me or post it again here after this post (so I don't have to go digging back several pages to pore over it all), and I'll get that built over the next couple of days. If no updates are made by Sunday afternoon EST, please poke me about it so I don't miss another week.

I am sorry, guys. Not good times to be your friendly-ish neighborhood admin.

Having seen the Wolverine mentioned several times on this page I'd like to point out that I covered it last year.

Yes, it needed two posts to fit.

Yeah, I know. To be fair, I did glance in, and despite my request I had exactly ZERO PMs or responses in the thread regarding people's claims, and as I said I don't have the time to dig back through page after page here to find claims. A little bummed there, but I suppose it's probably my fault more than anything. Regardless, the call still stands, if you have an article, SAY SOMETHING IN THIS THREAD AFTER THIS POST OR PM ME, and I'll get it on the schedule. Right now, I have nothing. Bummer.

That said, if no one has anything for this week I can toss they Eyrie up. (With the partial wing, jets, and talons, tossing it up could make for an interesting landing anyway!)

I was more lamenting that you had, since now I can't (though you did a remarkable job, and by the way thanks for the kind mention).  In the context of long articles, the fact you needed two posts perhaps proves we were right to think of that mech.

To be fair, last time as this time, you offered a post option, which it seems everyone took (perhaps lazyness, though it only saves a click or two, or perhaps to air requests publicly so as to avoid two people PMing you the same one and leaving you to be refree?)

I'll send you a PM, if that's what you'd sooner have.

Heh. CWD may have started the series, but I very much feel it was you who turned it into what it is today and your articles certainly always stand the test of time!

Kinder words than I deserve (as much as the vain part of me longs to hear them).  My greatest contribution was probably in throwing the doors open to all, rather than keeping an iron grip on the series (which the vain part of me has always had mixed feelings about; I do seem to be a jerk deep down).  I am glad it comes from you, since I still think of 'smart armor' when reading these.

I collected bunch of claims near the middle of this page (assuming forum standard posts per page setting). Figured you'd see them...

As for 'Mechs, i got Thunder, Lao Hu, Thanatos and Tian-zong ready to go. Though i'll yield this week for the Eyrie if possible.

Yeah, Eyrie just needs to actually get posted either Thursday evening or Friday morning (depending on what time I get home from my Star Wars game), it's written and all. Simple and quick one, there's no variants (to my dismay), so it wasn't hard to do. I'll toss it up.

I have Empyrus and Iron Mongoose (and myself), I'll get the original post modified when I get home tonight and add on anyone else joining in as I hear from them.
