So, I heard it when I woke up on my clock-alarm at 05:30, but didn't catch the name; you have no idea how awesome it is nowadays for me to go to the station's website and get their playlist; in the '90's, I'd be wondering what it was.

Yes; I've had it for two decades now, but I thought it was from The Destroyer, not the original OST.

It's basically 50/50 how we all do it. I do track then artist, but a lot of others do the reverse. We all figure out what's what in any case so no big deal.
Tall Cool Woman In A Black Dress ~ The Hollies
-
That's their best guitar riff. What a great song.
Indeed, though I'd argue that The Razor's Edge and Thunderstruck have some pretty powerful riffs as well.

Everything Frog Leap Studios.
I know they/he are a cover band, but I've been impressed by everything I've heard so far. There's been one I was only mildly meh on, but I think that had to do with the guest's solo, and that was Danger Zone from Top Gun.
And, his accompanying videos to each cover song can be hilarious or pleasantly weird. For instance, I dare you to look up the Frog Leap Studios acoustic cover to Slip Knot's Duality (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCxmDu5cRM0). (It's actually safe for work, more or less. It's still very subjective, considering it's still pretty hard metal. But, the imagery could still give nightmares because of the uncanny valley effect. Consider this my warning.)
But, the one that got me going down that rabbit hole was the Paint it Black (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03mUI9LaaIg) cover.
And, the one that impressed me the most was his version of Adelle's Hello (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtQUJMBH8uE).
One of my other absolute favorites is the Depeche Mode 'Enjoy the Silence' But, there ae so, so many good and fun ones. "Listen to Your Heart". Yeah.

Christmas music wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so repetitive. I think that Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is the only new Christmas song (vs a new cover of an old song) that's become part of the standard holiday lineup since I was born.

Somehow, I managed to get through this Christmas listening to only 1.5 of my 3 favorite Christmas songs: The Grinch (heard all of this when watched the animated version, as a tradition each year), The Twelve Pains of Christmas (managed to not listen to this one this year), and Weord Al’s The Night Santa Went Crazy (listened to part of this one one time).
It isn’t music, but currently listening to season 1 of the “Old Gods of Appalachia” podcast. Just discovered this one this evening.

Since I liked Napoleon, OST, I thought I'd give Martin Phipps' other works a shot. Listening to the Crown Season 6 OST and War & Peace, BBC, OST. I listen to them in the van while I do the donation pick-ups. They're OK; Napoleon is better because it almost sounds like he took samples from other classical-works.

Indeed. By 1993 for sure I had Kill'em All, Lightning, Puppets, Garage Days on CD (!) Justice, and the Black Album.
Little did I know that I would be very little interested in anything else they did except for a few scattered things like Garage Inc, and the symphonic live record.

Metallica after the Black Album is just angsty James whining about how miserable he is. Before that, he wrote songs with meaning. Since 1996, it's all been "Argh! Another generic song about a bad day!"

Nope. Only one fatality for Metallica. Former bassist Cliff Burton. Everyone else is alive and are living in quite good circumstances.
Young, poor musician James was hungry and still understood the generation he was growing up in. He made excellent music until he became a fat cat with less connection to the average listener each year.
In all this time there are only two songs they made that I actually do like. Unforgiven Too is pretty good actually. Devil's Dance has a nice heavy groove. Other than that...
-
Did Metallica ever get that much radio play? I don't think it did in my area, at least. I think I only ever hear them on satellite radio stations that frankly play a lot of artists that really shouldn't get any play at all.

Might not have been as much of a thing in my area, the radio stations were and still are dominated by Country, Christian, and Country Christian.
Edison's Medicine- Tesla.
-
Yeah, and by contrast I lived in the suburbs north of Detroit most of the time. Metallica was getting so much play, daily and nightly. And I don't mind hearing a lot of the classics. it was like that until about 2006 or 07 pretty much. 15 years of heavy rotation.
Anyway, I heard Justice again the other night on Ozzy's Boneyard. Satellite radio is were it's at.
-
Enter Sandman was the only Metallica song I ever really liked, and that was because there was a comic book store owned by a metalhead in my town when I was a teenager and Enter Sandman was basically the store's theme song because it was called Neverland.
-
At some point on my radio channel both Enter sandman and Nothing else matters were in the highest rotation so they played every 30mins or so.
I got somewhat fed up with both of those tracks, and turned from enjoying them to absolutely loathing them

My local corporate classic rock channels did that to me with every single one of the fifty or so songs in their rotation. I actually play a game where I flip through the three stations and see if I can identify the three songs playing in less than five seconds. Usually it's something like: 1 - commercials. 2 - In the Air Tonight 3 - commercials. I pretty much permanently turned them all off last year, and just call up something on Youtube through my phone.
And lately I've been on a Feurschwanz kick. Besides Ding, I've added Shubsetanz and their cover of Warriors of the World to my rotation. It's hard to do Manowar better than Manowar, but they come close. The difference is that Feurschwanz understand that they are ridiculous and embrace the ridiculousness, where as Manowar are just clueless about it.
-
ok am i only one that seems to that every classic rock streaming channel or corp radio plays eagles hotel california at least 4 times minimum through out the day? for past 20 years?
i frankly because of that song grew to not hate but to despise that song and eagles and i used to enjoy them.
-
There was a local classic 70s & 80s rock station in my area about 20 years ago that played Bohemian Rhapsody a minimum of twice an hour. I still get twitchy whenever I hear Queen. I quit listening to the station in 2008 when the DJ decided to start telling some seriously racist "jokes" on air.
But yeah, Hotel California is an overplayed song, but not as much as Lyin' Eyes is.
Anyway, listening to Girl's Talk by Hanabie. As usual, I have absolutely no idea what it's about but it sounds cool.
-
Reading this thread prompted me to look into how radio licensing, royalties, and advertisement pressures all work together: the repetitive, hits-based playlists they spin are the logical result of their environment. Repeatable and recognizable tracks take center stage, and since classic rock seems to be America's favorite genre, it takes the mediocraty treatment even harder. I mean, I still pretend radio isn't a thing and just listen to full albums off my walkman.
Track of the day: Fort Knox -- Goldfish. Track of the hour: Battle Flag -- Lo Fi Allstars feat. Pigeonhed.

I hear you. Nothing Else Matters was on 3 different stations at the same time a couple times during my teens and early 20's.
What makes up for it is something like Ozzy's Boneyard where out of nowhere you'll hear "Orion", or "Creeping Death", or Justice, like we were just saying. I can jam out to Lepper Messiah anytime it's on. Or The Thing That Should Not Be.
God Saved the Queen ~ The Exploited. This song is not a cover of the Sex Pistols. It's its own kind of Scottish hardcore punk thing.

Most recent big concert was Robert Plant with Alison Krause.

Listening to Running Free ~ Iron Maiden

I don't tend to like live albums, probably because I have been to so many shows (including those I worked, I've seen literally hundreds). But I do like Pink Floyd's Pulse and Metallica's S&M. (Dis)honorable mention to Type O Negative's Origin of the Feces; it wasn't actually recorded at a venue and the crowd noise is simulated, but to the best of my knowledge it *is* a one-take performance.
"Bottom of a Bottle" - Butcher Babies
-
best live album is Cheap Trick at Budokan, no question. A live album that defined the band's legacy. Currently listening to the Von Bondies -- C'mon C'mon.

I haven't been a huge gig-visitor, but I am glad I got to see Motörhead with my own foul eyes (when Motörizer was fresh). And had my ears ringing for three days after

I saw Primus once back in 2008, and Les Claypool the following year (he played a bunch of Flying Frog Brigade songs, along with his solo stuff). His music is what got me interested in learning bass guitar. I loved seeing Weird Al live as well.

You're doing the Lord's work. I'm mentally listening to the re-version of the X-Men theme from X-Men '97. If you liked the original, it's a must-watch. And the OP is a banger.

That's a good song, too.
Steve Earle has his own show on Outlaw Country, another sat station I listen to. I guess he's really good friends with Shooter Jennings, he also has his own show on Outlaw Country, plays a lot of his dad's music actually, then he'll turn around and play some NIN or Devo or Johnny Cash, all over the map. Shooter has his own stuff but he NEVER plays his own music. Not once. He won't toot his own horn, so gotta respect that attitude.

I get a lot of old-school thrash like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth, etc, on Ozzy's Boneyard, satellite radio.
Ozzy's DJs barely play anything from Metallica after Load or Reload. Mostly the classic albums. And barely any Load or Reload at that. (Edit: Forgot! Their Thin Lizzy cover tune Whiskey in the Jar was a late one for Metallica that was pretty good. But it was with the Garage Inc release, so I did mention it that way already.)
They play basically nothing from after that. So in a way it really is like Metallica is dead, as elf25s suggested.
Electric Funeral ~ Black Sabbath
