2's & 12's rewarding points to the skill used
« on: 06 December 2017, 14:19:28 »
Pg 51, MW 2nd Edition, we had "Every time a character rolls a 2 or a 12 while attempting to use a skill in the course of play, he will earn 1 Skill Point for that skill."

Has this been totally removed with 3rd Edition and AToW? (by nature of explicit rules, beyond "If the GM allows it").
And yes, I do know of the "hash-mark tag a skill when used" method of 3rd Edition, and AToW's XP-discounts through Training.

Yep it's gone.

But hey, I still use it in my campaigns.
The solution is just ignore Paul.

I give 1 XP when my players roll 2 or 12.
My mother and father met in a Mechwarrior RPG game, I am a Battletech Born Brat :)

AToW is my first battletech RPG, though it is not my first RPG. In my opinion, it was a good idea to get rid of this 2/12-roll-skill-point-rule. I will not be using that rule.

Mechwarrior 2nd edition was a very different game.  The 2s and 12s rule was pretty helpful back then.  It took a lot of skill points to improve your piloting and gunnery skills.  AToW doesn't really work the same way at all.
