The lesson here is if you had abstained from Starbucks then no problems would have occurred.  ;) Okay, that's not the lesson, but name calling of nuns is hopefully the low point of your day, Charlie. But congrats on the additional heir nevertheless.

However, I'd like to congratulate Arkansas Warrior on finding work. I know that feeling of pure exuberance of finding work after being out of work for so long. May it never leave you, friend.

I'm glad you're alive Dan.

As for Father's Day:  my wife sprung me for a five mile run and took on both kids by herself.  Exercise was my high water mark.  Hopefully the toddler will stop his regressive behavior sooner rather than later.

According to the development's sales girl (the model homes are across the street from us and the women there love my son to stop by) my karma reduction event occurred a couple of weeks ago when I walked outside, with my son, and a said hello to a customer that I thought was looking right at me.  After he ignored me, I referred to him as Mr. Personality.  I was later informed he is completely deaf.  On the bright side, it is social karma rather than something more important.

[random] I'm slowly adding the new AFFS units listed in the Field Report 2765 to Sarna, which is both oddly satisfying and rather fun (I'm twisted, I know) and I've just hit the Robinson Chevaliers. The Chevaliers have one of the more interesting write-ups (IMO) because I like being able to link them back to an earlier Age of War brigade and I like the idea of the regiments being linked to knightly orders.

As a part of the write-ups I've been doing quick wiki searches to see if there's a specific page for a knightly order that looks to have been the inspiration for the unit, which is also rather interesting - I'd never heard of the Order of the Black Swan, for example.

Then I hit the Fifth Robinson Chevaliers, the "Riders of St. George". Here I am, quietly pottering away in between work demands with a unit write-up, and I have the vague idea in my head that there's probably more than one chivalric order associated with St. George, given that all sorts of countries imported him to be the patron saints of all sorts of things including butchers and the like. Sure enough, there are half a dozen or so Orders of St. George, not to mention orders that include his name, such as the Order of St. Michael and St. George.

Not a problem, I think - quick google search for "Riders of St. George".

Only the first article returned is an Urban Dictionary for "Riding St. George" which might give some useful technique tips on something that has nothing to do with knightly orders of chivalry if I didn't think the work internet filter would go nuts if I looked at the article. Still, that's not likely to be anything to do with the knightly order, right?

Then I check the unit description, which is all about how everyone in the regiment was expected to master a fencing discipline, and how the MechWarriors in the unit prided themselves on their swordsmanship. And all I can hear in my head is the voice saying "yeah, I bet they really did pride themselves on their... swordsmanship."

Now I can't stop wondering if I've just had a random set of coincidences trigger my sense of humour or if the Fifth Robinson Chevaliers are actually a carefully-crafted in-joke that I hadn't picked up before... but I'm not sure I want to know one way or the other, because knowing for certain might take all the fun out of the idea of the Fifth sticking it to the DCMS during the Succession Wars...[/random]

I wonder if this is a Crimson Skies reference. In that setting, the Black Swan is a notable air pirate, if memory serves.

There was also a real-life Order of the Black Swan, although the order only existed for about 14 years, and I gather it was replaced with the Order of the Collar. It was French...

Crimson Skies sounds like a better tie-in than Natalie Portman...

Well the sky pirate in question was female, and if somebody knows something we don't, it might refer to both...

So what is everyone up to this weekend?

The wife and I enjoying a few quiet moments of World Cup while the kids nap.  I'm also trying to figure out my final contributions to the DUST Kickstarter that ended the other day.  Humorously, at the end of it I began to see familiar names from last year's Robotech Kickstarter.  Like them, I think I'll see my DUST items before I see anything from the Robotech game.

Working to make up the time I missed from having my gallbladder out. Tomorrow is a 'Welcome' home party for a close friend that had a nasty heart attack and spend nearly two months at the University of Chicago hospital.

The Robotech stuff STILL isn't done? Jeez!

I'm sorry to have been so self absorbed to have missed your gall bladder surgery: when was that?  I hope you're doing well.  Good luck to your friend.

To put Robotech RPG Tactics in perspective, I signed a contract on my new house a week before the event started.  Since then, my home has been built, we moved in, I knocked up my wife and we had a child two days before Palladium announced they had gone to manufacturing.  Yeah, those guys were on the ball and I should never have backed it.

As a counterpoint, I ordered a JagdLuther from Battlefront on a Thursday and received it on Monday.  While I don't have the new rules, the model is pre-primed and ready to use out of the box.  Reminds me of everything that impressed me about Leviathans.  Dummy me got sucked into nostalgia with Robotech and sometime in the future (we're going to tooling now was the latest update) I'll have 107 models to put together if want to build my entire purchase.  Some of it might be interesting but I'm not looking forward to assembling 26 pieces to make a Spartan (a Battletech Archer which was two with base).

I'm just glad that when I backed Robotech, I assumed it would get delayed like this. I've been taking the same approach to this as I have to waiting for a particular Battletech product. It'll come out when it comes out, and no amount of knicker-twisting will help things.

Okay, Charlie 6 got some productive use out of knicker-twisting, but that's neither here nor there. :)

Went to Bass Pro Shop with some buddies but I didn't get anything...yet. I am looking into learning archery and getting a bow but everything is just in my head right now with nothing firm beyond visions of various Robin Hood action scenes...still just a kid in some ways...heh.

Ah, you make better gaming assumptions than I do.  Someone on the DUST website or on the Kickstarter made the comment that they knew the Robotech RPG Tactics would be a long development timeline.  I wish I had, and had a better perspective on the work load involved in it.  I think it was the Battlefront backing that gave me a little confidence much the same as CGL's involvement in Leviathans.

Honestly, my assumption is that ALL Kickstarters will take this long. That way if one delivers faster, it's a pleasant surprise.

Something tells me that if I were at all interested in finance, I'd make a decent long-term investment broker.

I dropped my cat off with my girlfriend on Friday. She was in the middle of a cat cold war.

Otherwise, I was playing Navy all weekend, and re-enlisted for four more years. The scary thing is that at the end of this hitch, I'm eligible for gold chevrons (12 years of undiscovered crime).

Grats

I've been boring, playing today and yesterday a skirmish/MP only Company Of Heroes 2 thing.

They added the Americans to it, and the Oberkommando West.  They're somewhat different to
the established Russians and regular Germans, but it's fun working out new Armies.  It's just
struck me, that talking about it like that....is not so different from folks talking about other
miniature wargames.

Addicted at the moment to the Panzer 2, I just run the thing round the map harassing stuff
while my infantry get on with capturing.  Though I've had to run plenty of times on meeting
a T34 or a Sherman.

Now if they'd only do one with the British, I'd be really happy.  That's with the caveat of course
that we get Fireflys again, and/or Cromwells.  There were Churchills in the original game, but they
had pop guns despite their astonishing armour.

In other good news, I got hired today.  Well, I got offered a job.  The school board sti has to vote its approval, but that's usually a formality.  I'll be teaching 7th-8th grade History.  That's 12-14 year olds to y'all that may not be familiar with the American educational system.  I'd have preferred older, but it's a good district only 30 minutes from where I currently live, and I didn't have any other offers on the table, so I'll take it.

I was officially hired tonight.  Now comes the fun part.  Setting up my classroom, lesson plans, etc etc for the first time.  Oh, and I don't get paid until August, so anything I want to get for my room comes out of my own pocket right now.
Sunrise is Coming.

I wish. I gave up on that a looong time ago. In a year or two I might apply for a Reserve commission.

And there's good odds I'll never go underway again. I kind of miss that.

Actually, I like that movie. It's one of the more honest ones. Submarine life is more like that or Down Periscope than a serious one.

AW, congrats on getting a job. I hope you do well enough to keep it.
