Canonicity of betrayal of ideals?
« on: 16 October 2019, 18:28:43 »
The portrayal of the early clans depicted in Betrayal of Ideals is at odds with other depictions in the sourcebooks.

Betrayal of Ideals depicts the clan rules of combat to be in full force during operation Klondike (to the point of Kerensky chastising the Wolverines for not sticking to the dueling system), while the Operation Klondike book itself depicts the clans as more pragmatic and operating closer to SLDF tactics. It even suggests that the clans developed their dueling culture based partly on the actions of some of their opponents during operation Klondike.

Betrayal of Ideals also insists no nuclear weapons were used by the clans during Operation Klondike, however the sourcebook indicates that this was not the case, as they were used to reduce stubborn defensive positions.

Third, betrayal of ideals portrays the Wolverines as the only clan engaged in technological innovation, producing new weapons and mechs. Interstellar Operations indicates that wasn't the case, as numerous clans were producing prototypes of new weaponry even before operation Klondike.

So how true is Betrayal of Ideals? These might seem like minor discrepancies, but taken together they seem to change the whole tone of the story and make it feel like propaganda.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Depends on who’s writing it.
The solution is just ignore Paul.
