Title: (Answered) Abstract Space Combat Firing Arc Questions
Post by: Weirdo on 09 January 2014, 10:59:47
I have some questions regarding the Abstract Space Support rules, found in StratOps, pg. 308(Can't believe I never saw these before!).

It seems safe to assume that any reference to wing-mounted weapons would allow non-aerodyne vessels to instead use side weapons that overlap the nose arc, yes?

If one unit starts 'tailing' another in space, is it allowed to choose a non-nose arc(such as a WarShip wanting to fire broadside weapons) to fire at the target unit, or is it still restricted to forward weapons?

I can't find any rules for side hits. Is there any situation where a unit will take fire from the side instead of nose or aft that I have not found, or is this a result of the shoehorning of large craft into a ruleset originally intended solely for fighters? (The latter is of course understandable, given that we're talking about a single optional paragrach trying to allow the combination of a highly abstract ruleset(itself optional) with units that would normally never use it.)

Thanks!

Yes, side arcs that overlap the nose should be fair to use.

No, there's no provision in the current rules for another non-arc to be chosen when tailing.

For the moment, yes, there is no means to direct fire against the target's side arcs.
