In the spirit of better begging forgiveness than asking permission, or squabbling about it (or worse, being overly polite to each other) until no article at all gets posted, the Gùn is up.

Not a problem.

Anyone have a copy of the Savage Coyote article?  I might give that a shot... maybe.  I saw it was lost and figured I might try my hand :)

Savage Coyote article is finished and covers all known variants (including the two new ones from RS3067U and Wars of Reaving Supplemental) If I need to send to someone or whatever, i can.  Having never done it I don't know the exact process :)

I believe you're required to send finished minis of the 'Mech in question to Moonsword.  ::)

Since there was some discussion of it within the Dragon article, I decided to do a write-up on the Dragon II. Put it in for next week.

I haven't written one of these before, but do y'all think it'd be possible for me to reserve the Scarecrow? I'd like to do a write up for that bugger...if the Dragon II is coming next week, maybe for the week after?

Just a question: Can we clean the directory to remove the listings of all the old articles that no longer exist?

Got an article on the Big Guy ready (Atlas), so slot it in for this week. Also wrote up the Locust IIc, so that should be next week, I guess.

After cutting my teeth on the Scarecrow, I'd like to reserve the Jade Hawk.
Not sure when I'll manage to complete it, but I'd love to do a write up for it.

To continue my writing ways, I have done an article on the Mongrel. The BattleMech, not the Diamond Shark Grendel.

...wait.  Mongrel.  Is that the Clan 'Mech with the IS AC/5 on it?

Yep, or a PAC/8 on the other version of it.

I think that actually just made it worse, which is saying something when the starting point is "you put an AC/5 on a Clan 'Mech".

Does it have a CASE II-equipped standard-one-shot SRM-2 with an Artemis V designator on it?

Yes. I think I first met him during ClickyTech. He wasn't half-bad there.

Well, there are those three Clan ERMLs there.  That tends to make things at least a little better.

Although there's not much you can do in the ballistics category with only 6.5 tons (counting ammo). You can switch over to energy weapons, but you've already got the 3 ERMLs to handle.

The existence of the APGR tends to undermine that argument when your alternative is the PAC/8 because of the very similar range profiles.

You're right, I never paid much attention to the PACs, so I didn't know it was that short. In that case, a switch to a LAC/5 might be a better option than the PAC.

The range is shorter, but it does have better damage and an better chance for a critical with AP round compared to the LAC/5. Not awe inspiring, but not completely useless either.

The problem isn't that the PAC/8 is useless.  It's not even that the designer is cutting the MechWarrior's throat by employing one - whatever its faults, the PAC/8 is a lot less likely to actively contribute to the machine's demise than, say, the Po HVAC's main gun, and the Mongrel's ERMLs give it a passable throw-weight that the autocannon is just there to supplement.

The problem is that the PAC/8 really manages to coast into that spot not because it's a good or even decent weapon, but because someone was already silly enough to use the AC/5 of all things on the original and the PAC/8 fits the profile of "single small ballistic weapon with a bit of punch to it".  Once you get outside that very, very narrow niche, the PAC/8 is up against Clan missiles and lasers as direct competitors. #P

If anyone has it, could someone post the old Legacy MotW article? I'm looking for info on the bizarro LGC-04-WVR.
