A touch of grey - Player Handouts
« on: 15 October 2019, 02:15:25 »
The following is the handout for fight two. The first mission, touchpoint Sudeten, was brutal. The game started with everyone missing, except the blackjack hitting with 2 AC/2, both to the center torso. Two engine crits later, the Stormcrow isn't moving so fast next turn, resulting in getting cored and dropping his elementals in the middle of nowhere. Gargoyle got headcapped, and the third just vanished in a thunderstorm of autocannon and PPC fire.

Clans put too many eggs in one basket.

I gave them a BUNCH of named people as pilots, and some better mechs than canon. Maybe I gave them too much...

Chaos Campaign

Gray death Legion: After 3050, the Gray Death may roll up to 2 units per company from the Clan Jade Falcon column. For all
other units, the Gray Death rolls on the Federated Commonwealth column. When the Gray Death player rolls a possible upgrade, he
may select any published upgrade for that chassis without making the roll to determine upgrade availability.

The Legion also receives a +1 Initiative roll modifier when fighting on any wooded, hilly, badlands, or mountain terrain. Furthermore, before play, the Legion’s controlling player must designate a command unit. When outnumbered, the Legion receives an additional +1 Initiative roll modifier and the ability to use OffMap Movement as long as this command unit is active

Chaos Campaign Ruleset – Sword & Dragon (minus upgrade rules)
Starting Mechs: Command Unit

Marauder -3L   Greyson Death Carlyle   2/3
Shadow Hawk -2H   Lori Kalmar      3/4
Rifleman -3C   Davis McCall      3/4
Warhammer -6R   Hassan Ali Khaled      3/4
Wolverine 6R   Delmar Clay      3/4
Banshee -3E   Zenawi Lugor      4/5
Blackjack -1   Qamraaa Khaleel      4/5
Archer -2S   Haakon Hovda      4/5

Previous Mission Touchpoint: Sudeten

Starting BV       100
Track Cost:       -400
Objectives:       600 (Pound of Flesh)
         400 (Delaying Actions)
Optional          200 (Delaying Actions)

Repairs            (IIRC more stuff was hurt, but I don’t have the sheets on me, so I’ll just be nice)
   Banshee      -80
   Marauder      -60
   Wolverine   -30
Reloads            (We didn’t keep track, so I figured just lump it all together)
   AC/5      -5
   LRM      -7
   SRM      -7

Final BPV:      711
Salvage – dragged Gargoyle D from the field. It was destroyed assault (125 WP) x2 for clan (250 WP to repair)

After a blowout battle against the Jade Falcon vanguard on Sudeten, the Command unit of the GDL is forced to fall back as the rest of the unit doesn’t do so well. Their next point of contact is during the fighting withdrawal that results.

Track: Fighting Withdrawl
Track Cost: 400
Player Force: defender, up to 8 mechs
Attacker: Rolled 3 then 5
3 light, 2 medium, front line pilots
   Puma C
   Dasher Prime
   Puma D
   Fenris D
   Ryoken B

Yeah, for some reason they didn't actually withdraw to the other side. Maybe because they won this one too.

Starting WP       711

Mission cost       -300

Objectives
   Gauntlet      400
   Challenge   500

Optional Bonuses      None

Repairs

From Damaged
   Blackjack   -30
   Warhammer   -60
   Rifleman      -60
   Archer      -60
   Marauder      -60
From Destroyed (Clan)
   Gargoyle D   -250

Final         791*

You need to buy a pilot for the Gargoyle. A 5/6 is 15 WP, a 4/5 is 40, and a 3/4 is 100

Clarification: Reinforcements will appear at the START of the movement phase, not during or the end. No, you DON'T get to pull that #### again.

Clan Forces:
Uller Prime
Arctic Wolf Prime
Grendel Prime
Black Hawk  Prime
Nobori-nin Prime

All are Frontline: 3/4 pilots

This was fairly brutal. The GDL was actually outnumbered, so they got to use their special rules. Map was the dig, defend or die board I put together. Marauder, archer, Gargoyle, and warhammer started, rifleman and banshee reinforced. The almost untouched Grendel took a bunch of fire to the CT, followed by a SRM to the head. The Warhammer was lost to an ammo TAC. The Grendal fell while the pilot was putting out the cockpit fire, and was victim to a targeted kick to the CT next turn.

Archer and Nobori-nin fought to a draw.

The Gargoyle fought three mechs, getting the worst of it.  After an alpha-strike on 10s , the nova shut down, just in time for McCall and the banshee to show up next turn; heavy damage, two engine hits resulted while the trashborn was shut down. Uller lost an arm, and the clan player (not me) decided to bugger off, denying our heroes objectives and salvage.

Also, the Gargoyle pilot was named after a distinguished forum member and one of the class clowns; I was in a weird mood.

Chaos Campaign
Mission 4 – Scout (Death to Mercenaries version)

Gray death Legion: After 3050, the Gray Death may roll up to 2 units per company from the Clan Jade Falcon column. For all
other units, the Gray Death rolls on the Federated Commonwealth column. When the Gray Death player rolls a possible upgrade, he
may select any published upgrade for that chassis without making the roll to determine upgrade availability.

Chaos Campaign Ruleset – Sword & Dragon (minus upgrade rules)
Starting Mechs: Command Unit

Our heroes successfully counter-attacked, forcing the unexpectedly timid Jade Falcon force to pull back. Now on the offensive, they run into sensor readings that suggest they are running into a screening force.

Salvage – you find an abandoned Black Hawk Prime nearby with a heavily damaged engine. Count as crippled, pay 90 WP to repair

I'm running a chaos campaign and it's coming up on the final battle. The heroes have found the star colonel are going headhunting. Thing is, this time the opfor is getting a heavy star - Pheonix Hawk IIC 2, hellbringer C, Thor M, Balius C, Galahad

the heroes of the piece have introtech machines, and it's 5 on 8 and pretty much equal BV. But I want to give the heroes an advantage. What I'm thinking is that every other time a unit dies, we draw a reinforcements envelope; the inner sphere has more envelopes, and better ones. here's what I was thinking.

4 Savannah Masters (PCs)
1 Howler (Opfor)
1 militia Charger, 4/4 (PCs)
2 Rabid battlearmour points (Opfor)
Remaining Mech (The PCs have 9, and get to come in with two lances) (PCs)
2 Bulldog Tanks (PCs)
1 Thunderbird Battlearmour (Airdropped per BMM rules, Opfor)
2 LTV-4 hovertanks (PCs)

you guys have any other ideas?

You may look at giving the hereos some SPA's if you have not already. Things like weapons specialist, shartshooter and cluster hitter could be useful.

that would require a couple of my players to know what SPAs are, and devote the bandwidth to learning and using them. The inner sphere side is still not clear on some of the newfangled stuff like stealth armor, heavy gauss or RACs, stuff that came out in the field manuals after they bowed out of the game in the 90s.

I am desperately hoping that we get the civil war era stuff in the clan invasion box, along with star league & clan tech. Not expecting it, but hoping.

I killed the grey death legion last night

Ali and his Nova (He lost his 'hammer earlier) disappeared under a hail of lrm, to appear with a cracked cockpit.
Lori ate a gauss round
McCall died to a heat-induced ammo explosion after an alpha and pair of engine hits.
Grey lost both torso and a leg
The archer fell off a cliff onto its head

I don't know how I feel about wiping out fictional people I liked as a kid.

Next campaign will be wolf and blake. I'll give the players a choice - the black widows, the '71 foxes teeth, or '70 Sorenson's Sabres. (The last two from sword and dragon)
