Overview:
The second design created under Clan Wolf-in-Exile's "Operation Cerberus"
rebuilding plan, the medium-class Omnimech known as the Prowler made its debut
in mid-3063. Weighing at 50 tons, the Prowler was based on the 60-ton Lupus
Omnimech, and was initially designated as Lupus II during its design stage;
however, the end-result was best described as a "mini-Timberwolf".
Capabilities:
The 50-ton Prowler is built with an Endo-Steel chassis, and is powered by a
Starfire 300 XL Fusion Engine that propels it to a top speed of 97.2 km/h.
Eight tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor provide good protection for its weight-class,
while 12 double heat sinks, all housed in the engine, provides respectable base
cooling capacity. Overall, this leaves the Prowler with 22 tons of pod space
for weapons and equipment.
In its Prime Configuration, the Prowler is formidable at any range. An ER
Large Laser on each arm and an LRM-10 in each side torso are the main
long-range weapons, with each missile launcher supplied with its own one-ton
ammo bin. These are supported by four ER Medium Lasers for close-range combat,
with one per arm and one per side torso. A Micro Pulse Laser in each side
torso rounds out the armament, to counter any enemy infantry or battlearmor.
Two more double heat sinks were added to help with heat dissipation.
Configuration A has an ER PPC on each arm as its main weapons. These are
backed up by an ER Medium Laser and an SRM-4 in each side torso, and another ER
Medium Laser in the center torso, with the missile launchers sharing a one-ton
ammo bin. A total of sixteen double heat sinks help keep waste heat under
control.
Inspired by the Lupus B, Configuration B of the Prowler excels as a striker,
with an Ultra AC/20 in its right side torso as its main weapon, supplied with
three tons of ammunition. This is backed up by three Medium Pulse Lasers, with
one per arm and one in the center torso. An ECM Suite helps the 'mech to reach
the enemy undetected until it's within weapons range.
Configuration C is meant for urban or jungle combat, as well as for
hunter-killer missions. A Streak SRM-6 launcher in each side torso and paired
Medium Pulse Lasers on each arm are its main armaments, with a Micro Pulse
Laser added in the left side torso to defend against enemy infantry or
battlearmor. An Active Probe in the right side torso protects against hidden
enemies, while five jump jets significantly improve mobility. Two more double
heat sinks were added to help dissipate waste heat.
Configuration D is a sniper by design, with a Gauss Rifle in the right side
torso as its main gun, supplied with three tons of ammunition. This is backed
up by three ER Medium Lasers, with one per arm and one in the left side torso.
An Anti-Missile System helps protects against enemy missiles, while five jump
jets allow the 'mech to reach the optimum position for sniping.
Configuration E features an ATM-9 in each side torso as its feature weapons,
allowing the 'mech to engage enemies in any range. These are backed up by
paired ER Medium Lasers on each arm, and a Medium Pulse Laser in the center
torso.
Configuration F is a skirmisher that takes inspiration from the Stormcrow
Prime, with each arm fitted with a Large Pulse Laser and a Medium Pulse Laser,
while another Medium Pulse Laser in the center torso rounds out the armament.
A total of sixteen double heat sinks allows for respectable heat dissipation.
Configuration H has a Heavy Large Laser on each arm, while each side torso has
an LRM-5 launcher and a Heavy Medium Laser, with the launchers sharing a
one-ton ammo bin. A targeting computer helps counter the inherent inaccuracy
of the Heavy Lasers, while 19 double heat sinks struggle to keep waste heat
under comfortable levels.
Battle History:
The first notable deployment of the Prowler Omnimech was during Operation
Audacity, when the First Wolf Legion deployed several Prowlers as part of their
forces against the Jade Falcon's 7th Talon Cluster in Blue Hole; the First
Wolf Legion, with the help of surviving elements from the 8th Deneb Light
Cavalry, inflicted heavy damage on the Falcon forces, eventually driving them
off-world.
Deployment:
As one of their flagship designs, the Prowler Omnimech is expected to become a
prominent fixture in the Clan Wolf-in-Exile touman, primarily in the Striker
Clusters. However, trade with the Diamond Sharks had led to several Prowlers
being deployed in the Diamond Sharks' touman as well.
