Best Medium & Heavy IS Aerospace Fighter weapons and point-defense?

Trying to sort out which Inner Sphere weapons are generally the best/most effective to mount on a medium or heavy Aerospace Fighters, and what is the best/most effective type of point-defense weapon to mount?

Point defense-wise, nothing beats AMS.  Ever.

Far tougher  question  than most think . For Space / Air superiority  definitely AMS. For Ground Support maybe the small pulse laser . Machine Guns cannot strafe in the rules last I saw so they are completely  pointless  now .  So if you want the duo purpose  fine . Standard  IS Large laser and PPC bust slot of threshold numbers . Large Pulse maybe worth it if you are faster than most in the class . AC 20 ultra for drop ship / jump / war ship  armor  stripping  .  Maybe have Bracketed  weapons LRM w Atemis for long rang : large lasers for medium . Rear firing pulse laser maybe : with AMS . Have  yet to try large laser Thunderbolt 10 + combo .

AMS for point defense.

ER Medium Laser is probably the best all around weapon for an ASF. Useful range. Good power to weight ratio.
