Design Challenge - Cruciform rotor wing style Attack VTOL
« on: 09 January 2019, 20:09:49 »
Last night a fellow CBT player/friend sent me some pics he'd found online and asked if I could post them in a kind of "Design This" challenge, to see what the various folks around here might do with them.

THAT said, here's the SECOND: A "Cruciform rotor wing" style Attack VTOL/Helicopter

The Tiger Shrike VTOL

Was an experimental design that never really got off the drawing board as it was to advanced for it's time.
Powered by Fusion Power plant, and having 3 "openable" bays to reduce the radar signature when the SRM2 are not need.  But the forward facing PPC always exposed.
But what was really the advanced or pilot killing issue was this unit has a Jet Assistance package, that comes into effect when then rotor could be stopped in mid-flight to act as an X-shape cruciform wing providing lift during forward flight.

Thank you, I had to really think about that, and just kept coming back to the idea of what happens when Rotor doesn't stop and lock just right.
