Okay, it's possible to have field gun platoons - even though the MUL only lists one option using what I think must be AC-10s
here[/url, and one field artillery platoon [url=http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/2131/mechanized-field-artillery-71st-mechanized-field-artillery-2nd-sword-of-light]here.
But I got to thinking ... most Real World
TM artillery is towed, not intrinsic to platoons. Yes, I know, bringing real life to a BT fight ... but I figured it should be possible to come up with towed guns using the Trailer rules. This way, the unit represents a single gun, with minimum required crew, on a basic wheeled chassis. I gave it 1 ton of armour representing gun shields for the autocannons, and a ton of ammo.
So I got the following:
Points Type Size TMM Move Attack OV A/S Specials
Towed AC-2 Wheeled Sniper 1 0 0"w 0*/0*/0* 0 1/1 AC0*/0*/0*, CAR9
Towed AC-5 Wheeled Sniper 1 0 0"w 1/1/1 0 1/1 AC1/1/1, CAR12
Towed AC-10 Wheeled Ambusher 1 0 0"w 1/1/0 0 1/1 AC1/1/-, CAR16
Towed AC-20 Wheeled Ambusher 1 0 0"w 2/2/0 0 1/1 AC2/2/-, CAR18
Towed Thumper Wheeled Missile Boat 1 0 0"w 0/0/0 0 0/1 ARTT, CAR18
Towed Sniper Wheeled Missile Boat 1 0 0"w 0/0/0 0 0/1 ARTS, CAR24
Towed Long Tom Wheeled Missile Boat 1 0 0"w 0/0/0 0 0/1 ARTLT, CAR35
The assignment of "missile boat" for the artillery pieces was arbitrary; could have been "sniper", but I felt it was more appropriate.
Basically you can truck them in any sufficiently large transport, or tow them with anything with a Trailer Hitch or Tractor Chassis.
Thoughts?
(Also, unlike field guns, there's no reason why not to have towed LRMs, etc. Consider them cheap-arse Gun Trailers ;) )
