Ah, thanks... I must have been crossing wires with the space combat end of things.

Hmm, given there are mechanics for shooting Thunderbolts down & for shooting CapMissiles down,  you'd think we would have something for Cruise Missile/Arrow.

The detection range and response time for ground-bound units is quite pitiful, and the release of ordinance form Arrow IVs isn't the same with the LRMs and SRMs.  Apparently.

Arrow IVs most likely are simply larger and more heavily armored, such that the relatively small caliber point defense provided by an AMS isn't sufficient to stop it before impact.  Since the Battletech Universe doesn't have anything approaching the size and power of a 21st Century CIWS, at least for anything that's not a warship.

True, but that same AMS installed on a spaceship WILL shoot down an Arrow IV or even larger capital missiles.  Best not to look too close...

Space hexes are a lot bigger so there's a longer engagement range combined with a lack of ground clutter?

Sure, but that's a different argument than small caliber being insufficient.

I said insufficient to stop it before impact.  The greater ranges of space give the AMS more time to work.

More time would work if it used more ammo in the process...
