BAT-C4T BattleCat Davion
« on: 20 November 2019, 14:34:31 »
I seem to be on a quad roll, when I back and read the fluff on the BattleMaster.   I figured that House Davion needed a version of it, and this is what I came up with.

Overview
When it was originally founded in the aftermath of
the Second Succession War, Archangel Heavy Industries
manufactured heavy construction and manufacturing
equipment for other companies looking to repair their
existing equipment.   Over time, AHI began to branch
out into manufacturing 'Mech spare parts to keep the
existing Davion forces operational.   By 2889, the company
found itself with a downtrending cash flow due to fewer
new 'Mechs being manufactured in the wake of the
Succession Wars.
The company directors decided to manufacture a new
'Mech using the parts they were already manufacturing
and mating them to a new chassis of their own design.
Basing the design in part on the classic Star League-era
Scorpion, the engineers were able to produce an assault
'Mech they hoped could replace the dwindling numbers of
Davion BattleMasters.   Naming the new 'Mech the BattleCat,
AHI hoped their new 'Mech could also bring the company out of
its financial doldrums.   However, by 3036 the effort to
manufacture the new design had taken a severe toll on
the company and it was bought out by GM and
incorporated into their new facility on the planet.

Capabilities
The BattleCat was designed to be a trooper 'Mech
along the lines of the BattleMaster.   AHI had hoped
that the new 'Mech could replace the venerable
design in the Federated Suns military.   To that end,
the BattleCat was designed with a heavily armored
quad chassis with a somewhat squat layout that
would make the design easier to armor and maintain.
The one limitation to the design was that AHI had to
design the fusion powerplant from scratch as no comparable
system was available.   Where the company found the
ability to manufacture the massive Pitban 340 powerplant
is not known, but the fact that they were able to do so at
all when the supply of such systems was becoming scarce
was amazing in and of itself.
The armor protection and firepower for the assault quad
were the primary focuses for the assault quad.   With over
16 tons of armor, the BattleCat can endure severe punishment
while the quad chassis structure helps to better distribute that
protection.   While the quad structure requires more non-standard
parts, it allows the armor to be slightly thicker over critical areas
of the 'Mech
The firepower of the 'Mech is concentrated around the Johnston
Parti-Cannon PPC and a brace of Martell Medium Lasers.   These
energy weapons are supported by a large bank of heat sinks that
allow a 'MechWarrior to better control the heat curve.   A pair of
ChisComp 32 small lasers provide infantry-suppression firepower,
while an additional pair of Martell medium lasers cover the rearward
portion of the 'Mech.   The BattleCat can maintain a constant barrage
of energy weapon fire to cover an assault, and without concern for
ammunition cooking off due to the waste heat than can accumulate.

Deployment
The BattleCat is a relatively rare 'Mech that is only seen in the
services of the Federated Suns.   It is commonly seen alongside
other 'Mechs such as the BattleMaster and the Marauder in
assault lances or leading trooper companies.   Part of the rarity
of the design is that just prior to the turn of the millenium, AHI
was appropriated by General Motors and the company was
converted into the GM facility on Talcott.   While GM continues
to produce spare parts for the BattleCat, it ceased production
in favor of its own designs by 3036.
