Operation Broken Fist/Conquest of Alchiba
« on: 12 June 2012, 14:00:07 »
The timeline of the Jihad in both Jihad: Final Reckoning, page 45, and Blake Ascending, page 178, state that the Lyran world of Alchiba was hit by Free Worlds League troops on the 1st of September 3068 as a part of Operation: Broken Fist. Unfortunately, the entries both state that the worlds hit by the FWLM on the 1st of September were Alchiba, Milton, Phecda, Alchiba and Wyatt. Is Alchiba on the list twice because it was hit twice, or has it been duplicated in error, or perhaps pasted in place of another planet?

Hello,

The second instance of Alchiba is actually Denebola.

Thank you,

Thank you.

The Jihad timeline indicates that Denebola was taken on the 20th of September by the FWLM troops - does that mean that they assaulted Denebola on the 1st, but didn't manage to conquer it until the 20th?

Yes, conquests are not instant, it takes time to conquer a world, even if it just have militia.

Denebola is the only planet mentioned twice in the context of Broken First - was it singled out for mention because the 20 days to take the planet was the longest period of time needed to conquer a world of the various worlds the FWLM targetted, or perhaps as an example of the approximate length of each planetary campaign? I ask because it seems odd that the other worlds the League appear to have captured in Broken First according to the map in the Blake Documents are only mentioned once each in the Jihad timeline.

it was mentioned twice because some author decided to do so, not for any particular "in universe" reasons. It's just what happens at times.

That's great, thank you :) My apologies if I seem to be a pedant with these things.
