Sherwood Sheriffs
« on: 02 May 2018, 23:21:05 »
Hey I'm new to Battle Tech and thought i'd make a mercernary company to start out. Let me know what you think and if there is anything else i can add or change!

Sherwood Sheriffs

During the reign of the Star League, the 132nd Royal Jump Infantry Regiment served with distinction and honor. Through its actions it helped bring stability and order to a region of space that otherwise would have regressed into chaos. Whilst the 132nd served in multiple places, none are more famous than their time spent on the world of Sherwood. During their stay on the forested planet they were instrumental in rooting out pirates that had hidden themselves within the forests. For their valiant actions they were given the moniker “The Sherwood Sheriffs”. Despite the strength and history of the division, it would be destroyed by the time the Star League fell apart. However the Sheriffs’ legacy would live on.
Before the uprising in the periphery the Star League saw fit to win the hearts and minds of the populace. In order to accomplish such a task the Star League devised a promotional program that would also serve as a way to give veterans leave from active duty. Several of the most famous divisions would be given a Leopard dropship and all the normal accompanying assets in order to spread the good word about the Star League. These dropships would travel from world to world hoping to both inspire and awe the citizens that came to see them. The 132nd received such a dropship itself and sent many of its veterans from planet to planet proclaiming the tenets of the Star League.
Upon the collapse of the Star League and the destruction of the 132nd, the crew aboard the dropship was stranded upon Sherwood and had nowhere to go. Without further orders the crew continued providing the same service that it always had. As the years went on, the old Leopard turned into a museum to the Sheriffs and as a reminder to the glory that the Star League once was.
With the loss of the Star League and the devastation of the Succession Wars those on the periphery became more and more susceptible to predation. Pirates began to seize any and all opportunities to acquire wealth and tech. Sherwood was particularly vulnerable along with all the other planets in the outback. The AFFS was more focused on fighting with the other successor states than providing protection to some backwater. Year after year the pirates became bolder and bolder until a pirate band attempted to land on Sherwood itself.
The Sherwood militia, desperate for more firepower and equipment went into the old Leopard museum and commandeered the centuries old battlemechs and aerospace fighters. What followed caught all of the participants by surprise. The old fighters and mechs obliterated the pirates and sent them fleeing toward their home in the outer periphery. Defying orders not to pursue, the newly christened mech and aero jocks boarded up the old Leopard, hitched onto a complying jumpship and chased the pirates to their home moon. Weakened and surprised the pirates put up little defense and were wiped out.
The crew now had to decide whether to go back home to Sherwood and face court marshal or go their own way and make do with what they had. In a unanimous decision they decided to rechristen the name of The Sherwood Sheriffs and take the fight to the pirates harassing the outback.
Despite its altruistic goals the Sheriffs would still need to make some income. In order to balance out their ideals with their need for c-bills they would largely take on contracts that offered good salvage rather than high payouts.

Just added it into the original post. This is supposed to be their original load out from the leopard on Sherwood, thus explaining why they have all of these SLDF variants. The idea would be that as they grow as an operation they would get different mechs and such.
