Miniature of the Fortnight #99: Cicada
« on: 23 July 2020, 08:05:12 »
"Where I live, we're coming upon the hottest part of the summer.  Soon we will hear the mechanical songs of this season, the loud clicking that we associate with dire heat, the soft hum of fusion engines, the ever-present sounds of Cicadas on the training grounds..."

This fortnight, we're focusing on the Cicada, another scout 'Mech from Technical Readout: 3025.  Back in the day, it was overshadowed by the Locust and I neither used it much nor saw it used much.  It didn't help that the update in Technical Readout: 3050 was lackluster.  Some of the other variants show promise and I imagine there are quite a few fans of this 'Mech.  If you'd like to learn more about its variants or using it in the game, check out the Cicada's 'Mech of the Week article.

The Cicada is another 'Mech that hasn't seen much love over the years:
  • The original metal sculpt released by Ral Partha is still the current sculpt (20-900)
  • Based on that is the beginners set sculpt (currently sold as part of Recon Lance 'Mech Pack (10-039))
  • CGL's previous versions of the intro box and Recon Lance Pack included a plastic miniature based on the beginners set sculpt
If anyone has any Cicadas painted, please share pictures.  We'd love to see them!

As always, thank you for reading and posting pictures!

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • Aug 3: UrbanMech and UrbanMech IIC
  • Aug 17: Vulcan

My collection of Cicadas.  I think there was a earlier version of the Cicada that did not have a weapon barrel in LT.

It's the first one in my picture and you can see the remainder have the weapon barrel.

Also the CT on the top has some additional detailing not present on the later sculpts.

Only the newer metal model painted. Although i should have at least one of the plastic models none of them have been painted so far.
The painted model is part of the 2. Sirian Lancers.

Got 2 Cicadas, one in Atrean Hussars done a long time ago and the second in a personal scheme.
