General BattleTech Discussion / Re: Bloodnamed and captured

I enjoy reading the responses;  I honestly can't answer this question.  It's been ages since I read my Clan Wolf Source-Book and I have no idea where it is. When I was playing Battletech: Mechwarrior-RPG, I never really liked the Clans, but my players did so I had to read up on them.

Alpha Strike / Re: ground scale and turn scale
« Last post by Kerfuffin(925) on Today at 16:40:52 »
Alpha Strike doesn't specify time, but it does reference distance and unit speed. By that, you can estimate time in relationship to the speed of the units.

Alpha Strike says each inch is 7.5m. Units with 8" movement can move 60m per round and the unit's cruising speed is 43.2 kph walk or 64.8 kph run. 1 kph is 0.27m per second so walking speed is 12m per second and running is 18m per second. So, one round is about 5 seconds at walking speed or 3.3 seconds at running speed.

Scale has always been an issue in BT.

where does it say that?

Mackolla (Federated Suns)

Gerald Mitchell had just sent the purchase confirmation of Ulston Armor, Blow/Hookson Technologies and Newhart Industries for a combined total of 1.6 Billion. It was a large sum but also came with a total of 29 licenses between the companies he just finalized, several were not just licenses but complete ownership of said license. Anyone that wanted to get a manufacturing license would have to pay Mackolla Enterprises a large fee upfront and a percentage of each and every sale to obtain that permission from him. The same they would have to do on all the various production licenses he had purchased for almost 600 Million since he had started this. With more still pending.

He now turned his attention to the HPG message that arrived this morning from Froy Industries, which he had to look up to even know who they were. His hour of research quickly made him write out HPG message agreeing to every single condition proposed in the original HPG message. This was a bonanza and killed so many birds with a single stone that he could not pass it up. His next message was to the bank to make contact with the sender and arrange the funds transfer. With that simple agreement an additional 450 Million was spent. Even he had to whistle at how fast he was ripping thru money. He had thought five Billion would last but he had already torn thru almost three Billion in just a few months. But this last purchase was just too good to pass up. He reached behind him and pulled out a ringed binder and opened it up. This was where he kept note of companies and licenses held by Mackolla Enterprises. He pulled out a pen and started updating it. He would wait for confirmation before adding in Froy Industries licenses.

General BattleTech Discussion / Re: Mercenaries KS - Store Credit

The email for mine said it was issued as a gift card, it also did not list an expiration date (I know where I like gift cards cannot expire but a quick search shows that it varies by region in the US). As a gift card the balance can be split up into multiple purchases and the email included a link to check the current balance of the card.

Fan Designs and Rules / Re: IS ERLL Range Conspiracy
« Last post by Mechanis on Today at 16:23:47 »
Part of the problem with a lot of the advanced technology is a combination of being statted out prior to Battle Value being a thing, leading to severe issues in terms of lore and statistical consistency from attempts to "keep things balanced", part of it is from "nothing is allowed to be just flat out better than IntroTech" and some of it is legacy errors from early editions of the game. Simply put, BT has some equipment stat issues and rules problems (Like active probes not actually doing anything in standard play with no optional rules); at this point the only reasonable time for stat alteration (from official sources) would be simultaneously with a theoretical "BV 3", since that would invalidate all previous record sheets anyway.

The whole thing is honestly a symptom of the lack of planning for a technological progression, which resulted in a period of post ex facto justification for "they have this but don't use it For Reasons" with variable levels of beliviblity (which, you know, could have been "they had this all along, it just didn't show up on screen" but W/E)

Mufasa, Vader, Greer, Mr. Mertle, King Joffer...so many iconic rolls and he mastered them all. He really made my childhood special.

General BattleTech Discussion / Mercenaries KS - Store Credit
« Last post by Rob Bendig on Today at 15:54:01 »
Regarding the store credit that was issued to some backers to compensate for high shipping costs, a couple questions:
  • Does the credit have an expiry date?
  • Does the whole credit have to be used in a single purchase or can it be used in part over time (e.g. can I get some downloads now and use the balance at a later date)?

The Onuris Attack VTOL includes the OMNI ability. VTOLs cannot transport battle armor as external cargo. Since the OMNI ability only allows the ability to transport battle armor, it should have the OMNI ability removed. Further, the unit type is "Combat Vehicle - OmniVehicle - VTOL" and does not show up as a VTOL when you search for the Subtype: VTOL filter. It seems it was misclassified.

The Onuris is an omnivehicle, and can carry mechanized battle armor.  It just can't use vtol movement while doing so.  Pretty worthless, but technically correct.

It's subtype is "OmniVehicle - VTOL".  Technical limitation of the MUL, we can't have three levels of types.  So its type is Combat Vehicle, its subtype is "OmniVehicle - VTOL" and it's not "VTOL".  This is true of all omnivehicles.  It's not something we can currently make work differently.
