Availability of some mechs model for Marik in 3062
« on: 16 February 2011, 14:51:24 »
Hi, knowledgeable people,

For a future battle we'll be having, I will make a Marik lance. As I already have a Battlemaster, and a Thunderbolt, I'm wondering which models of these are available for Marik in 3062.
I'm confused about the SE versions of the Thunderbolt, as well as the RLA. Can I use them ? Which factions are regular users of them ?

The SE Thuds are an ELH design and so at this point would be considered "Star League." Since Kurita and Marik were the primary arms suppliers to the SLDF, it should be easy to get in Marik space.

Strike first. Strike hard. No mercy.

SE versions were built for the merc market and readily available.  The RLA is a Drac technology testbed, but doesn't appear until the 3070s in any case.

Be advised, however, that the Project Phoenix variants by and large weren't available until the late 3060s, so you're only real options will be the BLR-3M, TDR-7M and TDR-9SE.

the TDR-7 SE is listed as being a 3050 mech on MegaMek.

Not sure if MM is an accurate ressource where mechs availability is concerned.
But I don't know where else to look for canon dates...

I must say I am pretty confused as well. It seems to me that -9SE was produced after 3050 (the same time as -7M). But -7SE is described as Project Phoenix 'Mech from late 60s? Is it possible that dates in Megamek are swapped? Megamek dates are sometimes a bit inaccurate. Perhaps -9SE actually predates -7SE

Nope, the -7SE is a Project Phoenix 'Mech, while the -9SE predates it.

Good advice for you: the designations for 'Mechs often make no sense.  Multiple writers and multiple sets of production staff will do that to you.

Regarding the Thunderbolts: If you want to help your Archer out a little bit, take the -7M.  If you want to make it a jumper and be more of a bodyguard, take the -9SE.
