Based on the venerable Scorpion Chassis, the new SCP-2R Scorpion is a dedicated Sniper Mech. Using their studies of the failed Scorpion-LAM prototype Defiance breathed new life into the design by fitting it with a smaller 275 rated XL fusion engine and eight improved jumpjets. This gives the 55 ton machine the same jump range as the old Spider.
The main weapon is a Defiance 1001 ER PPC fitted into a Quad Mech Turret to allow it to cover all approaches rather than hard mounting it like the old Scorpion did. The turret is also armored to withstand damage to ensure that the mech's primary weapon does not get locked into a single avenue of fire. The ER PPC is further enhanced by an experimental PPC Capacitor, which can enhance its hitting power to be equal to the Clan equivalent, at the cost of massive heat buildup. 12 double heat sinks manage to handle a full jump and a Charged shot from the ER PPC but just barely. A single ER Medium, also Defiance make, rounds out the armament. The lack of explosive weapons was seen as a boon to a mech that might spend considerable times behind enemy lines. Both weapons are tied into a Targeting Computer that rides in the center torso.
Finally, the mech sports an impressive 13 tons of standard plate to protect it.

Technically it lacks explosive ammo, not explosive weapons - the capacitor will happily blow up in your face... ;)
I'd put the component armor on that instead.
But more importantly I'd skip two tons of armor to get an Angel ECM. Always a useful piece of gear!

This Scorpion definitely inspires me. Obviously if you don't go with my silly ideas you have the space to put on the ECM. But I like silly and why not take something away from the LAM idea.

Forgot to put the PPC in the turret...

I didn't go for the partial wing as quad mechs already fight tooth and nail for every crit slot on their chassis. I was giving up eight torso slots for the jump jets and all the slots in the legs. 8 jump range is Spider territory already so I figured it was good enough. I didn't armor the capacitor for story reasons. I figured since it's experimental it takes loads of maintence and wrapping that in armor would make that harder.
If I was to change things I might try dropping the turret altogether and putting in a heavy PPC. Sorta a jumping anti-tank gun :p

Forgot to put the PPC in the turret...
It was taken out and back in a few times. I must have forgot to portion it to the turret. just unarmored the gun and put the ER Medium back on.

If you are willing to screw around a little, you can make it into a rather mean city fighter with those jumpjets and potentially a 20 point knockdown strike ;D
Of course this version lacks the targeting computer but I hope the massive short range of the Snub-Nose PPC (have I ever mentioned I love this infighting weapon?) makes up for that.
