NOTE: This thread is for the second volume of the revised, two-volume edition of Tactical Operations. We are no longer collecting errata for the original single-volume version.
This thread is for all issues and problems with Tactical Operations: Advanced Units & Equipment.
Product Link: https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/battletech-tactical-operations-advanced-units-equipement
There are four printings of TO:AUE - be sure to cite which release you're working from:
2020
2021
2022
2023 - pending
Current errata version is 7.0, and can be found here:
https://bg.battletech.com/errata/
Please remember to follow the errata report template (http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,2412.msg171290.html#msg171290) when reporting issues. Thanks.
Developer-Level Errata:
In case of any contradiction, developer-level errata takes precedence over the current errata document.

Fourth Printing Tactical Operations - Advanced Units and Equipment
Patchwork Armor page 189
Error: Unclear wording
Third paragraph:
Even under patchwork armor rules, a unit may not mount
multiple armor types in the same location (including locations
with a front and rear facing, such as ’Mech torsos). A unit may
also not mount armor types illegal for that unit type to mount.
Correction:
Even under patchwork armor rules, a unit may not mount
multiple armor types in the same location (including locations
with a front and rear facing, such as ’Mech torsos). These rules do not allow a unit to mount armor illegal to it nor do they change what armors are legal to mount on a unit.

VERSION: PDF, initial release
LOCATION: Page 9, Campaign Operations.
THE ERROR: "Campaign Operations (CO) is the rulebook you are holding in your hands and the foundational book to" - This is Tactical Ops, not Campaign Ops
THE CORRECTION: "Campaign Operations (CO) is the foundational book to"...
-
Version: PDF
Weapon & Equipment Tables (Page 216 onward)
THE ERROR All References are based on the initial Combined Book (424 pages) as opposed to the split book.
EXAMPLE:
Bloodhound AP Active probe has a page reference of 278 (Correct for the combined book), should be page 90 (split book).
Correction, Update table to reflect new changes (seem to be a flat 188 page discrepancy across the board.)

Reposting from old thread:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=68378.0
Per that thread, laser insulators do not take up any additional space on non-mechs
TO, pg 221 shows a series of +1** for CV SV F SC unit types
I believe those +1's should be changed to +0 for the sake of clarity.

Two copies of the same error:
Version: PDF (Corrected 4th printing)
Location: LARGE NAVAL VESSEL HEIGHTS TABLE (Advanced Support Vehicles Chapter, p24)
THE ERROR:
Submersible Large Naval Vessels may not dive in water that exceeds the total sum of the above- and below-surface level values. If they attempt to do so, the vessel will run aground
(Underscore added to show error)
Explanation: if I have Depth 10 water, and a submarine that is a Class C Template (that has height 1 and depth 2), based on the above description the submarine cannot submerge because the Depth 10 water exceeds the sum of the above and below water height (1+2)
THE CORRECTION:
Submersible Large Naval Vessels may not dive in water that is less than the total sum of the above- and below-surface level values. If they attempt to do so, the vessel will run aground
Version: PDF (Corrected 4th printing)
Location: AIRSHIP AND LARGE VESSEL TEMPLATE TABLE (Advanced Support Vehicle Construction Chapter, p57)
THE ERROR:
Submersible Large Naval Vessels may not dive in water that exceeds the total sum of both the above- and below-surface Level values. If they attempt to do so, the vessel will run aground
(Underscore added to show error)
Explanation: if I have Depth 10 water, and a Submersible Mobile Structure submarine that has a total height of 5, based on the above description the submarine cannot submerge because the Depth 10 water exceeds the height of the Submersible Mobile Structure
THE CORRECTION:
Submersible Large Naval Vessels may not dive in water that is less than the total sum of both the above- and below-surface Level values. If they attempt to do so, the vessel will run aground

pp. 216-228
INCORRECT PAGE REFERENCE: As NeonKnight said above, all page referencess on these pages are wrong. Note that it applies not only to the "Ref" column, but also the "See rules for this equipment in the Advanced Weapons And Equipment section, starting on p. 274." footnotes at the bottom of the Construction Data tables.
CORRECTION: Change the footnotes to "See rules for this equipment in the Advanced Weapons And Equipment section, starting on p. 86." As for the numbers in the "Ref" columns, someone would hace to go through them one by one to make sure, but a quick look at just some of them suggests that you should subtract around 188 (plus or minus 1 in some cases) from every one of them.
-
The errata for the upcoming second printing has been posted. Many of the corrections were page number references, but were not noted in the document.
Also, Alfaryn: I added you to the playtester/factchecker credits. Thanks a ton for going through those page # references.

Corrected Fourth Printing, PDF
p.94, Reactive (Blazer) Armor rules
ERROR: The following sentence appears to have been added to the end of the wrong paragraph: "Note that if a ’Mech location contains nothing but Reactive Armor criticals, this second 2D6 roll is only made once; any result other than a 2 in this case means the critical hit transfers to the next location (see p. 125, TW)."
FIX: Delete from the first paragraph, add to the second paragraph.

VERSION: 2020
LOCATION:
page 225, Infantry Construction Data
THE ERROR:
The WT column gives the unit as "kg". This is obviously wrong, otherwise a microcopter would weigh 1.9kg.
THE CORRECTION:
change the WT column weight unit to "Tons"
or
multiply the WT column weight values by 1000

page 162, XCT troops construction rules
Error:
Extreme Temperatures (Cold): XCT Troops equipped for extreme cold must use Snowsuit, Heatsuit, Environment Suit (Hostile or Combat), or Spacesuit (any) armor
types.
Extreme Temperatures (Hot): XCT Troops equipped for extreme heat must use Cooling Suit (any type), Environment Suit (Hostile or Combat), or Spacesuit (any)
armor types.
As per https://bg.battletech.com/forums/ask-the-writers/heat-suit-clarification (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/ask-the-writers/heat-suit-clarification) Heatsuits are used for hot environments, not cold ones.
Fix: Delete heat suit from Extreme Temperatures (Cold), add Heat Suit to Extreme Temperatures (Hot).

Corrected 4th printing PDF.
Naval Comm-Scanner Suit (NCSS) (pp. 144-145) does not have a listed BV. Per p.192 any equipment not listed on the tables as having a BV is considered to have 0 BV. However, because the NCCS provides an initiative bonus even in standard game play it should have a BV.
Since NCSS in canon units is not particularly widespread this would only affect the BV calculations of the Drake (JHS:T), Naga (JHS:T), Aesir (TRO:3085), Vanir (TRO:3085), Vengeance-PWS Prototype (TRO: Prototypes), and Bug Eye (IP3:IE)
-
Corrected 4th Printing, page 224, the "Heavy Weapons Ammunition Combat Data" table.
The Flak entry should have a "**" in the "To-Hit Modifier" column in addition to the "**" marks under "Damage" to account for the Flak attack bonus (which is mentioned in its description).
-
Corrected Fourth Printing.
p.195
Add footnote stating the following:
*The damage used to calculate the item’s BV is based on the final damage the item can deal after all possible modifications (such as TSM) are applied.

Corrected Fourth Printing
p. 157 Second bullet point under Supercharger
PROBLEMATIC SENTENCE: For ’Mechs, any such hits are applied to the upper-most undamaged critical slot(s) in the center torso.
PROBLEM: While official 'Mech record sheets are always printed with Engine in three first slots in the Center Torso section of their Critical Hit Tables, the rules as far as I'm aware don't require such placement. This may cause problems with player-designed 'Mechs.
SUGGESTION: Change the problematic sentence to something like: "For ’Mechs, any such hits are applied to the upper-most undamaged Engine critical slot(s) in the center torso."
-
p.100, Shield construction rules
PROBLEM: The third piece of errata here---regarding pod-mounting shields---was never implemented: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/errata/tactical-operations-4-june-2014-(v3-3)/msg710110/#msg710110
Xotl: managed to slip this into the 6th printing just before it went out.

Tactical Operations, AUE: 6th Edition
On page 157, under the rules for the Supercharger, there are two bullet points which are repeated. The last two points talk about TSM interacting with a Supercharger:
• A ’Mech may combine a Supercharger with Triple-Strength Myomer. If both are used in the same round, the Triple Strength Myomer modifier is added to the Super-
charger-modified speed.
• A ’Mech may combine a Supercharger with Triple-Strength Myomer. If both are used in the same round, the Triple Strength Myomer modifier is added before applying
the Supercharger modifier.
Having both is confusing and redundant, so delete one of them to simplify the rules. I like the wording on the last bullet point the best!

TO:AUE 4th Edition PDF. (2020)
Page 152 and 224 + 225
Page 152 There's a few issues with this paragraph. Problems
1) The statement for Combat Engineers and Marines makes it seem as if those weights are exclusive to those Infantry types. This is misleading as the base weight for Paramedics and TAG Infantry also vary depending on Motive Type.
2) The weights listed for Foot, Motorized, and Jump Infantry Platoons do not match those currently found in TechManual 6th Edition page 155 which are; Foot 0.085 ton, Motorized 0.195 ton, Jump 0.165 ton.
3) The listed weights of 1.5 for Microlite VTOL and 2 for Microcopter VTOL Infantry are either specifically for Combat Engineers and Marines or could be in conflict with the tables on page 225 where they're listed as +1.4 and +1.9.
4) while other specializations presume a base weight of 0.1 ton per trooper. This includes other infantry types who's motive type varies. Also, presuming .1 is the old weight for Foot Infantry, the weight is no longer correct.
5) The example used, uses the old TM weights.
Correction 1) page 152
Rewrite the paragragh and page 152, with the updated weights, a set base weight for Microlight and Microcopter Infantry.
Example
The Added Tons value establishes additional weight over and above the base weight per trooper depending on Motive Type chosen (see p. 155, TM, and TO:AUE see p.255). They are reprinted here for your convienience (0.085 ton for Foot, 0.195 for Motorized, 0.165 for Jump, 1 for Hover/Tracked/Wheeled Mechanized, 1.5 for Microlite VTOL and 2 for Microcopter VTOL). If the Motive Type does not vary, use the base weight 0.085 of Foot Infantry. For example, a Motorized Marine Combat Engineer has a per-trooper weight of 0.185 (Motorized) + 0 (Marine) + 0.1 (Combat Engineer) tons, or 0.285 tons for each trooper.
Note:
This removes ambiguity as to which infantry use which weighs. Setting the base weight for VTOL infantry also makes them consistant with TM Infantry Types as Mechanized VTOL Infantry are a base Infantry type. It also eliminates confusion with the listed +1.4 and +1.9 weights on page 255. The base weight of 2/trooper for Microcopter would be consistant with the transport weight of 32 tons found for VTOL Infantry in TRO:3085.
Correction 2) page 255
Replace the weights for Microlite Infantry +1.4/trooper and Microcopter Infantry +1.9/trooper with the new weights Microlite 1.5/trooper and Microcoper 2/trooper.
Correction 3 and 4 ) page 224 and 225

The advanced support vehicle armor table on page 69 differs heavily from the support vehicle armor table on page 134 of the tech manual. As near as I can tell, it was never errata'ed when the table in Tech Manual was adjusted.
Solution, swap the values listed on page 69 for the corrected values found in Tech Manual on page 134.
Xotl: TM is correct here; TO will be updated if there is an 8th printing. For now, use the values found in the most recent TM printing.

P. 171, Arrow IV Homing Missiles (Air-Launched Version)
Self-contradicting rule: The rules for Air-Launched AIV Homing missiles indicate that fighters can drop them as bombs, then go around and TAG targets for those same missiles. Bombs always land on the same turn that they are dropped, thus this point is unnecessary and this scenario is impossible.
Solution: Nix the final bullet point under Arrow IV Homing Missiles (Air-Launched Version).
-
Corrected fifth printing, print, and Corrected sixth printing, pdf
p. 223 Supercharger line and footnotes
PROBLEM: Collision of symbols - § symbol is used in the tables on pp. 216-223 both in "Type" column header (with corresponding footnote on p.222) and in "Item / Ammo Cost (C-bills)" column of supercharger entry on p. 223, with corresponding footnote also on p. 223.
RECOMMENDATION: Change the symbol used for Supercharger entry and footnote on p. 223 to something else. Do not change the symbol used for "Type" column instead to avoid potential problems with Additional Alternate Era Weapons and Equipment table on pp. 208-218 IO:AE, where the same symbol is used in the same context.
-
TO:AU&E, pdf 4th Printing
I'm hoping this has been corrected in the later printings, but I noticed the page references in the table in the back are still to the OG single volume TacOps. Fixing that would be a heavy lift, but one that really needs to be done.
-
Page 3 of the version 6.0 TO:AUE errata document lists an errata for Field Guns, page 123:
Under “Game Rules”, second paragraph, last sentence
Ultra and Rotary Autocannon Field Guns are immune to jamming or fire control failure effects, and Gauss-based Field Guns are
immune to weapon explosion effects.
Change to:
Field Guns are immune to jamming, fire control failure, and ammunition or weapon explosion effects. All autocannons may use
special ammunition using the appropriate rules, though the entire platoon must use the same ammo type.
Checking my 6th printing PDF, this errata does not appear to have been applied, and should be applied in the next printing.
As a secondary question, is the section stating "the entire platoon must use the same ammo type" intended to apply to a single turn of fire? It would otherwise contradict an earlier line indicating that individual tons of Field Gun ammo may be of various types. If so, the last sentence could be changed to something like "[...] though the entire platoon must use the same ammo type when declaring weapons fire for the turn." to make this clearer.
-
6th printing, pdf
p. 224, Arrow IV (Homing) line, Damage Std (Aero) column.
Change the entry to "20** (NA)"
REASON: Arrow IV homing missiles don't always deal 20 damage, and should be treated similarly to Copperhead rounds in the same table (see Arrow IV Homing Missiles on p. 166 and Copperhead Artilery on p. 167 for more details).
-
6th printing, pdf, page 225
Top chart, headers, the weight of the BA equipment in the top chart is listed as "WT(Tons)".
Since BA can't mount a 400-ton BA LB-X AC, I suggest the WT be changed to "WT(kg)"
This way BA can mount a 400-kilogram BA LB-X AC
Xotl: This was thought to have been fixed in the previous printing, and so was missed for this one as well. Noting it for a future printing correction.

Solution: Change the Tech/Rating entry for Handheld Weapon from D/E-E-F to D/X-X-F.
No change needed. Per the fluff on page 127 handheld weapons have been used during the Star League Era. 3055 just saw the most recent use of them.

Issue: The rules for torso-mounted cockpits state that "If the ’Mech’s head is destroyed, excess damage does not transfer to other locations." However this creates room for abuse by putting all ammunition in the head and getting a location that is both difficult to hit and does not risk unit destruction in the event of ammunition explosion.
Suggestion: Add the following sentence: "The sole exception is ammunition stored in the head, which transfer remaining damage to the Center Torso."

Isn't that inconsistent with how damage transfers in Total Warfare? And why should ammo explosion damage transfer but not headcapping damage?
Transfer diagram doesn't send anything from the head (TW p. 123), as most Mechs are Destroyed with head destruction. Clearly the intent was to leave that intact by having head damage not transfer and rerolling subsequent head hits. But ammo explosions are such an extraordinarily violent and dangerous event that being able to hide several tons of ammunition in a location essentially risk free (looking at you LGN-2F and Ostean) is just cheesy and broken. This singular exception remedies this.

THE ERROR: page error; the text points to the wrong page number in Strategic Operations
When an Energy Storage Battery’s power is delivered via the vessel’s solar sail, normal quick charging rules are followed (see pages 87-88 of Strategic
Operations).
THE CORRECTION: "(see pages 75-76 of Strategic Operations)."
I'm fairly certain that this has not been fixed in later versions, as I have neither seen it reported here nor found it in the Errata V 7.0 pdf. If it has already been reported or fixed, please disregard.
Xotl: It has been fixed in later printings, but errata will often skip simple page number ref corrections, especially for a book which had hundreds of such, as otherwise the errata doc would be three times the size. Thanks for the report.
