Assault guns aren't good at suppressive fire, they're good at defensive fire. Okay, BT doesn't really differentiate.

I'd take a stock tracked heavy APC, strip the weapons, insert a LAC-5 at the front, and stack some modular armour on front & sides. Which probably reduces speed doubly (overloaded, and carrying modular) to similar speeds as the SL.
