Dropships carrying vehicles...
« on: 11 June 2012, 19:46:10 »
I was reading through the transporting capacities for the dropships in TRO3057 today and noticed that when it comes to vehicles, various dropships will list that they can transport so many light or heavy vehicles.

This has prompted a couple of questions for Me:
1.)  what about medium and assault vehicles?
2.)  and is there some form of conversion; such as 2 light vehicles = 1 heavy?

Thanks for the help!!!

For the purpose of dropship bays, 'Heavy' means >50t, while 'Light' is <51t. A heavy bay can take one 'light' vehicle, but a light bay cannot take a heavy.

Correction:

It also means a VTOL can be carried in a Light Vee Bay.

IIRC, I thought I saw something somewhere that Conventional Fighters could be carried in Heavy Vee bays, but for the life of me I can't recall where.

As a matter of tonnage, that makes sense. However, the vehicle bay would lack fighter bay launch/recovery equipment. You'd have to roll the fighter out on the ground before launching.

Agreed, its stored in there w/ the rest of the tanks, not in a catapult equipped aero bay.
Still better than being stored in "cargo" space.

Heavy Vehicle Bay has upper limit at 100 tons. Cray, can you remind me what are transportation options for vehicles over 100 tons and large support vehicles like 60 ton VTOL?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I agree from a realism standpoint, but has that distinction ever been offically made in the rules?  Frex.  I think, rules-wise, you can drop vees from door-equipped vees bays if you strap on vdc's.

That is what I'm trying to recall,  I'm thinking there was a TRO fluff entry somewhere about transporting them but I'm not remembering what it is ATM that is making me think that.
