General Background Resource?

Not really an Inner Sphere question, but...

After a hiatus of (conservatively) many years, I'm taking a look at BT again.

Is there a good source book that acts as a primer for the background and history?

I'm looking to get a feel for the various factions, so I can pick one that will feel right as I begin to acquire and paint miniatures.

The Universe Book will be coming out shortly, covering all aspects of life in the Inner Sphere.
